Malia Manuel Does A Double Sweep At NSSA Hawaii RVCA Series Event Five

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 January, 2008 : - - With NSSA Hawaii Conference leaders in the Girls and Women division gone in Australia, Malia Manuel swept both the Explorer Girls and Open Women at Banyan Tree’s in Kailua-Kona as the fifth event of the RVCA series went down in good surf over the January 12th-13th, weekend with three to eight foot faces.

Riding the split peaks at the Big Island break, Manuel impressed the judges with her smooth surfing as the waves started heaving into the late afternoon heats on Sunday, carving gracefully on the rising swell. With Oahu’s north shore pushing twenty-five feet, the waves for the RVCA contest peaked at eight foot faces during the Explorer Mens final with Oahu’s Billy Kemper lighting up the rights and lefts for some huge scores.

Along the way, island menehune traveler Kaoli Kahukaloa displayed some bravery as the looming sets took charge of him during his semi-final heat and ripped his contest singlet clear off for the Surfco Surfer award, given to the outstanding competitor of each event.
