World’s Best Pro Junior Surfers Heading for Ozmosis Nova Pro Junior at Gunnamatta

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 January, 2008 : - - An outstanding field of most of the World’s best 20 year and under Junior Men and Women surfers will line up in the Ozmosis Nova Pro Junior which begins tomorrow at one of Victoria’s most famous surf beaches – Gunnamatta Beach on the Mornington Peninsula of Victoria.

Lead by number one seeds Julian Wilson (Qld/Sunshine Coast)  and the recently crowned ASP World Junior Champion Sally Fitzgibbons (NSW) in the Junior Women’s,  the field is stacked with talent that includes numerous overseas surfers here in Australia to gain experience on the ASP Australasian Pro Junior circuit which is unquestionably the toughest and best Pro Junior circuit in the world.

Surfers like Tamaroa McComb (Tahiti), Klee Strachan (Sth Africa), Maxime Huscenot (France) and Paige Hareb (NZ) will more than challenge the best of the Australian’s.

The other certainty attached to the Ozmosis Nova Pro Junior is surf! Gunnamatta is one of the most open surf beaches in the world. Swells pound this stretch of beach like nowhere else and across the five days of competition surfers will be challenged by big waves, perfect waves, onshore/offshore and potentially rips and currents like they’ve never before seen!

To win here you need to be an exceptional surfer and exceptionally skilled at dealing with surf and the ocean making the Ozmosis Nova Pro Junior an event of real substance.

ASP International judge and Head Judge for the Ozmosis Nova Pro Junior, Richard Porta, himself a born and bred surfer from the Mornington Peninsula, commented on this weeks event saying, “Gunnamatta can be the ultimate challenge for surfers and at the same time offers some real quality surf to perform in. Every year we see surfers of this caliber rise to the challenge and really revel in these types of conditions. The outlook for surf is great and I’m sure we’ll see exceptional performances.”

The Peninsula Boardriders Club are hosting this event and their intimate knowledge of the surf in this area will ensure the event scores the best possible surf from start to finish. Leading into this event the Boardriders Club ran trials and have awarded wild card positions to two of their developing young surfers in Caiden Fowler and Liam Jolly.

Numerous surrounding activities are planned as part of the event which begins tomorrow with surfers set to meet at Gunnamatta first thing tomorrow morning – Wednesday January 16. The Ozmosis Pro Junior is possible due to the support of Ozmosis, Nova, Apex, Superpages, Peninsula Surfriders Club, Play It Safe, Surfing Victoria and Parks Victoria.
