Sally Fitzgibbons takes another big win at the Osmosis Nova Pro Junior in great waves
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 January, 2008 : - - Young Australian super star surfer Sally Fitzgibbons, fresh off her win at the ASP World Junior Championships in Sydney just two weeks ago, took out another major event on the ASP Australasian Pro Junior circuit by winning the Ozmosis Nova Pro Junior at Gunnamatta today.
In the clean and high quality 1m surf Fitzgibbons was trailing for most of the final but with just 10 minutes remaining found her rhythm with a strong 6.5 ride and quickly followed up with an excellent 8.5 to take an easy win over fellow South Coast NSW surfer Kirby Wright (Culburra).
“I found it hard to find a decent high scoring ride early in the final and I was quite worried at the half way point but then when the better waves came to me I new I had to surf them well because time was running out – fortunately it worked out well for me.” Finishing equal 3rd was Sunshine Coast surfer Lori Kelly and New Zealand surfer Paige Hareb
All the girls, along with many of the World’s top rated ASP women’s tour surfers now head to Phillip Island for the Roxy ASP World Qualifying 6 star event which begins next Monday.
Australia’s top 20 year and under Pro Junior Men’s also enjoyed the great surf today with and there were many standout performances from tomorrow’s rapidly approaching stars of the sport – Queensland’s Julian Wilson, Nth Sydney surfer Davey Cathels , Tahiti’s Tamaroa McComb and New Zealand powerhouse surfer Richard Christie were all scoring high 9 point rides in the excellent surf.
The sole Victorian surfer left in the event today was Jan Juc’s Cahill Bell – Warren who was eliminated in his round four heat this morning finishing in 25th place in the event overall. The surf is expected to remain excellent throughout for the Men’s final which is expected to run Sunday morning at Gunnamatta.
