Quiksilver Goodwave 2008 presented by Virgin Mobile in association with Resolution – Waiting Period Begins

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 February, 2008 : - - Durban – The 11-month waiting period for the Quiksilver Goodwave begins 1 February, and the list of invited surfers, as well as the list of alternate surfers, has been announced.

The competitor list, which includes former event winners Simon Nicholson, Warwick Wright and Antonio Bortoletto, as well as New Pier standouts Shane Thorne, Davey Weare and Dan Redman, is available on the new event website - goodwave.co.za – as well as the alternate list.

Along with the locals and event winners this year the entry list has been expanded to allow surfers from across the country to compete amongst the premier waves of New Pier. Surfers like Simon Fish, Keegan Nel, Sean Holmes and Warwick Heny have all been included to come up against the New Pier locals on their home turf.

The four South African World Championship Tour (WCT) surfers Travis Logie, Jordy Smith, Royden Bryson and Ricky Basnett are all on the list as well, but their entry into the event is still subject to an ASP approval at this stage.

This year the first prize has risen to a massive R75,000 for first place, more than a four-star WQS event first prize, while the entry fee has remained at one Rand, which equates to a really good turn around for the winner of this one-day event.

The event website – goodwave.co.za  – will be live from today onwards and will include a daily surf report as well as fresh morning images of the waves at New Pier every day. The new site will also have updated images, results and news on the day the event runs. For sms and/or email alerts as to the event status go to the new site and sign up.

The Quiksilver Goodwave will be featured on an upcoming episode of Boardriders TV, the cutting edge locally-produced surf, skate and snow show. The Quiksilver Goodwave is presented by Virgin Mobile in association with Resolution.

Disclaimer: The Quiksilver Goodwave is an invitational surfing contest and participation is by invitation only. Contestants are selected by Quiksilver in its entire discretion and Quiksilver's decision shall be final. All of Quiksilver's rights are reserved.
