DATES ANNOUNCED FOR 2008 SIMA SURFING AMERICA USA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 February, 2008 : - - San Juan Capistrano, Ca – Surfing America, the national governing body for surfing in the USA, is excited to announce the dates for the 2008 SIMA Surfing America USA Championships.  The event, which decides the undisputed USA surfing champion by pooling top talent from the ESA, HSA, NSSA, TGSA, and WSA, will return to Huntington Beach in August and provide qualifiers with a highly competitive event.

“Surfing America is proud to bring the USA Championships back to Surf City USA,” said Surfing America Executive Director Mike Gerard.  "This year's event is gearing up to be the best USA Championships ever and enthusiasm for its return to summer is high.  Thanks to all who support the mission of Surfing America and its developmental programs benefiting tomorrow's world champions."

The USA Championships are the foremost event in American junior surfing and include an ASP-certified panel of judges, live scoring and four-person, twenty-minute heats.  Although, the event is youth focused, it still holds divisions for elder surfers as well. This year, the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) returns as the premier event’s title sponsor.

“SIMA has been a major supporter of Surfing America since its inception, and we feel it is important to support this great event to help promote the young surf talent in the U.S. and provide a platform for them to further develop and demonstrate their skills,” said Dick Baker, president of SIMA.

Top finishers in Under 18 Boys, Under 16 Boys and Under 18 Girls divisions will be invited to the trials for the 2009 PacSun USA Surf Team that will compete for the United States in the 2009 Quiksilver/ISA World Junior Surfing Championships. A complete schedule of events will be announced closer to the event date.
