South Coast Set To Host Second Annual O’Neill Scottburgh Pro

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 March, 2008 : - - The KZN mid-south coast is set to host the second annual O’Neill Scottburgh Pro at Scottburgh beach on March 29 and 30. The event forms part of the 2008 Surfing South Africa (SSA) Pro Surf Tour (PST).

"Surfing South Africa is proud to be associated with the 2008 O'Neill Scottburgh Pro. Not only is it the first Pro Surf Tour event for 2008 but it is also the second year that the O'Neill Scottburgh Pro takes its place as one of the cornerstones of the PST.

O'Neill have once again committed themselves to developing the local professional tour and their partnership with the borough of Scottburgh and Surfing South Africa makes for a great start to 2008," commented Robin de Kock, General Manager, Surfing South Africa.

The O’Neill Scottburgh Pro includes an upgraded 3A rated Men’s SSA PST division offering R20 000 in prize money; there is a 1A rated Women’s division worth R2500 and for the first time a 2A rated Pro Junior division which boasts a R5000 prize purse.

“We are really excited to be hosting our second Scottburgh pro event. We have upgraded the entire event and added a junior component for 2008, which should make for some hotly contested, high level surfing, especially coming from our two top juniors, local wonder kid, Casey Grant and newly signed O'Neill star Nick Godfrey.

This will make for an even more exciting event to watch for the spectators, so we look forward to seeing a great turnout at this spectacular venue, over the 29th and 30th of this month,” commented O’Neill South Africa Brand Manager Chris Bertish. As an added incentive the Zigzag Blowing Up Expression Session will award R1000 and a unique hand grenade trophy to the top surfer in this event.

Beachgoers will be in for a treat as free ‘learn to surf’ clinics will be hosted by Point Surf Academy under the guidance of Scottburgh local and Surfing South Africa accredited coach Shaun Hague. On Saturday night Phat Boyz will be hosting a party for all of the surfers and spectators.

Nerve events organiser Paul Godwin said, “Nerve Events are once again pleased to be associated with this event at one of South Africa’s premier breaks. On a recent site inspection to the area I noticed the local council hard at work finishing repairs to the area after last year’s tidal damage so the beach is going to be in top notch condition. It is great to see O’Neill’s continued involvement with the SSA PST tour.”

Co-sponsors for the O’Neill Scottburgh Pro include Surfers Paradise Surf Stores, Wimpy Scottburgh, Phat Boyz and Nestle Pure Life Water. The event is organized by Nerve Events.
