Ecuadorian full team fired up for the Masters         > Espanol abajo

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 24 March, 2008 : - - A full Ecuadorian team will be competing in the perfect Peruvian waves of Punta Rocas from March 29 until April 5 in the only world surfing event for surfers over 35 years old, the second annual ISA World Masters Surfing Championship. After holding three trial events in order to select the team that would travel to represent the country’s colours, the final team results in the following names:

This is second time that Ecuador will compete in the World Masters Surfing Championship. On the first edition, that took place in the perfect waves of Rincón, Puerto Rico, Ecuadorians placed 8th in the overall team standings.

In order to gain more training ground in Point Break waves, the trials for this year’s team selection were made also in Point Breaks, like Montañita or Playa de las FAE. According to the Ecuadorian Surfing Association Event Director, Jorge Andant, “The bigger the waves get, the more chances our team will have to do well.”

He also highlighted that on the team there are some really experienced athletes, like the five-time National Champ, also President of the Ecuadorian Surfing Federation, Manolo Lozano, former two-time National Champion Beto Dapelo, former Pan American Champion Felipe Rodriguez among other qualified surfers.

“The selection of the team was great. Their determination right now is amazing. They have been preparing themselves a lot to give an historical performance in Punta Rocas. Ecuadorian surfing is in a non stop progress and Masters are not an exception! The rest of the teams should mind the brave Ecuadorians”! Completed Andant.

Ecuatorianos con equipo completo parten motivados para el Masters

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 March, 2008 : - - Un equipo completo de ecuatorianos estará presente en las perfectas olas de Punta Rocas desde el 29 de marzo hasta el 5 de abril para competir en el único evento mundial para surfistas mayores de 35 años, el segundo anual ISA World Masters Surfing Championship.

Luego de realizar tres eventos para seleccionar el equipo que representaría los colores de Ecuador, el combinado final se conformó con los siguientes nombres:

Es la segunda vez que Ecuador compite en el ISA World Masters Surfing Championship. En la primera edición, que tuvo lugar en las olas de Rincón, Puerto Rico, los ecuatorianos se ubicaron octavos en el ranking por equipos.

Con el objetivo de tener un buen campo de entrenamiento para Point Breaks, las eliminatorias para la selección del equipo de este año fueron realizadas también en Pointbreaks, como Montañita o la Playa de las FAE. De acuerdo al Director de Eventos de la Federación Ecuatoriana de Surfing, Jorge Andant, “Cuanto más grande las olas estén más chances tendremos de que nos vaya bien”.

Andant también recalcó que en el equipo hay varios surfistas con mucha experiencia, como el cinco veces Campeón Nacional, también Presidente de la Federación, Manolo Lozano, el bi Campeón Nacional Beto Dapelo, el ex Campeón Panamericano Felipe Rodriguez, entre otros surfistas calificados.

“El team estuvo muy bien seleccionado. La determinación es excelente y se están preparando mucho para hacer un papel histórico en Punta Rocas. El surf ecuatoriano sigue en franco ascenso y los masters no son la excepción. ¡El resto de los equipos deberán tener muy en cuenta a los bravos ecuatorianos!”, Completó Andant.
