    YALLAHS’ HIGH SURFERS MAKING STRIDES

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 26 March, 2008 : - - 'The students involved in the Yallahs High School Surf Club are improving with each training session they attend' said JSA President Billy Wilmot following a session held at the Copa Surfing Beach in 8 Miles Bull Bay on Sunday March 23. They are benefiting from the JSA’s National Development Program, one aspect of which targets students of local High Schools situated along the islands eastern seaboard as potential surfers.'

The JSA has been promoting the sport of surfing locally for the past 9 years. “During this time we have sent National teams to the World Surfing Games, the Pan American Surfing Games, The World Masters Surfing Championships and The World Junior Surfing Championships. These young surfers have many opportunities for development and exposure as a result of their involvement in the program” said Mr. Wilmot “

They are receiving training from Local International Surfing Association (ISA) accredited instructors who are implementing Surfing Australia’s “Surf Coaching Program” which the JSA has been able to acquire.

The students have received both land and water based training designed to improve their balance and general surfing technique. “I love it!” said one participant when asked how he was enjoying the experience. “It not as hard as it look. Me soon get wicked on it!” said another.

The program has been running for 3 weeks now and the kids are catching on very quickly. In no time we will have a new set of surfers to choose the National team from”. commented Coach Inilek Wilmot of his charges.

The program is supported by the Sports Development Foundation, Insight and the Jamnesia Surf Club. Other schools interested in getting involved in the Schools Surfing Program may contact the JSA at jasurfas@hotmail.com or phone 750 0103 for further information.
