Kelly Slater Rings Winning Bell at Rip  Curl Pro  Bells Beach!     > Francaise ci-dessous

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 March, 2008 : - - Bells Beach Australia – Eight times world champion Kelly Slater emerged victorious in an extremely close final in the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach yesterday to score two victories in the first two events on the World Tour. Slater, who was undecided about entering until just days before the event, narrowly defeated 2007 Vans Triple Crown and Billabong Pipeline Masters winner Bede Durbridge from Australia in the final.

Slater started off the year with a bang by winning the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, recently voted ‘Most Popular Event’ on the tour by the top 45 surfers and announced at the recent Surfing Life Peer Poll Awards, before heading down to Bells. The good surf that stuck around for the event was obviously much to his liking, as he defeated all and sundry on the way to a final berth.

It was as close as it comes in the final with Slater scoring 15.63 to Durbridge’s 15.16. It was Slater who threw caution to the wind, paddled very deep at Bells Beach and found a late wave which he successfully executed a major aerial on to win his third Rip Curl Pro title. The victory has cemented Slater’s position as World No. 1.

The Rip Curl  Pro is the second stop on the ASP Men’s World Tour and includes the world’s top 45 full-time touring professional surfers plus three wildcards. The third stop is the Billabong Pro Teahupoo in Tahiti, another event where Slater feels comfortable,  and has won three times in the past.
