O’Neill Team Rider Casey Grant Fired Up for Second Annual O’Neill Scottburgh Pro

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 March, 2008 : - - Local Scottburgh star and O’Neill team surfer Casey Grant is fired up and has his sights set on winning the second annual O’Neill Scottburgh Pro presented by Surfer’s Paradise. The event has been upgraded to a 3A rated Surfing South Africa Pro Surf Tour for Open Men and includes a 2A Ladies division and a 2A Pro Junior Division

The O’Neill Scottburgh Pro will attract South Africa’s finest male, female and junior surfers for a showdown of epic proportions. The” A list” line up of surfers consist of O’Neill team Rider Casey Grant (18), junior female top seed Amber Kilfoil (Bluff), talented junior Klee Strachan (Winkelspruit) as well as south coast favourite Frankie Oberholzer (Warner Beach) and Antonio Bortoletto (Durban).

In addition to surfing keeping him fit and focused, Casey Grant said, “I love competing; I especially enjoy the adrenaline rush of winning a tough heat.” Grant who has been surfing for nine years will prove to be tough competition especially in light of his recent stint overseas competing in Australia at the Billabong Junior World Championships.

His local break Scottburgh is 60km south of Durban and has shark protected beaches for the general public. Following last year’s major tidal damage the local council is in the process of rebuilding the tidal pool and this will be operational by Easter.

“Scottburgh has amazing waves and I am really excited about the venue as it’s my home break which gives me an added advantage. If the waves play their part we will be in for an exhilarating contest “, commented Grant. As an added incentive the Zigzag Blowing Up Expression Session will award R1000 and a unique hand grenade trophy to the top surfer in this event.

Beachgoers will be in for a treat as free ‘learn to surf’ clinics will be hosted by Point Surf Academy under the guidance of Scottburgh local and Surfing South Africa accredited coach Shaun Hague. On Saturday night Phat Boyz will be hosting a party for all of the surfers and spectators.

Co-sponsors for the O’Neill Scottburgh Pro include Surfers Paradise Surf Stores, Wimpy Scottburgh, Phat Boyz, Ocean Minded and Nestle Pure Life Water. The event is organized by Nerve Events.
