Science Fiction Technology for Quiksilver Pro Durban

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 April, 2008 : - - Durban -- The website for the Quiksilver Pro Durban 2008 is now live!. The website was built and designed by Pilotfish Digital pilotfish.co.za. The Quiksilver Pro Durban is once again light years ahead of any other event with their almost science-fiction technological roll-out, and expertise in relaying their event out in different formats.

Computer access and mobile phone access are going to be the prime formats to access the event, but the amount of bells and whistles that go along with this technology is literally out of this world.

The most exciting thing about the technology available at the Quiksilver Pro Durban is the live webcasting on the event website. These days there are millions of people hitting the webcasting sites on a daily basis, and people from around the world log onto to watch the heats live, in near perfect quality.

This year the webcasting commentators will be 1989 World Champion Martin Potter, former WCT surfer and multiple WCT event winner Jake Patterson. They will be joined at various times by other surfing luminaries who will be present at the event, current and former New Pier locals and members of the Quiksilver South Africa crew.

The commentating is the most crucial element of the webcasting program, as they form the link between the visuals and serve to inform the viewers of the scores awarded, and scores needed to advance. Perhaps the highlight of the event technology is the live webcasting on cellphones. There are downloaded videos uploaded daily, there are the photos of the day’s action uploaded, the wave of the day, as well as all sorts of links, contacts and access to rider profiles and other interesting stuff.

The Quiksilver Pro Durban is available through social networking websites Facebook.com and Myspace.com.  Just log on and search Quiksilver Pro Durban and we will be able to access news, pics, videos, discussion forums and limited edition event info.

Another Quiksilver first is the launch of the 1 million free downloads through the Quiksilver MXit portal, where you can get your share of wallpapers and MXit Skinz for free (first come, first serve).  The portal will be updated with results and news.
