Luis Vindas claims two after CNS Torneo Banco Nacional    > Espanol abajo

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 April, 2008 : - - Playa Dominical Costa Rica – With Jaco’s Luis Vindas claiming his second consecutive 4-star, 1st place Circuito Nacional de Surf win this weekend at Playa Dominical’s Torneo Banco Nacional, and the currently #1-ranked Gilbert Brown from Puerto Viejo sneaking up behind him at in 2nd place, the overall National Championship crown still looks to go with Brown but the race is getting mighty interesting.

Vindas reiterated his desire to snatch the trophy out of Brown’s hands, if possible, by adding 1,500 points to his personal account. Both surfers now turn their attention to the April 26-27 Gran Final Terraza-Reef in Playa Hermosa, a 6-star bonanza. The National Championship is accomplished by the surfer that obtains the highest scores from the best four dates of the CNS. At #1, the title is Brown’s to loose.

Today’s four best surfers fought it out in the Open finals: Jason Torres (Jaco), Juan Carlos Naranjo (Jaco) along with Brown and Vindas. Vindas won the heat by connecting two great combinations of waves during the first minutes of the heat, sufficient to score points that would elevate him to 1st place.

Torres, and Naranjo surged to raise their own points after seeing those performances, yet the winner himself maintained good scores throughout. Brown, in his customary strategy, tried to use two good lefts, but they were not enough to surpass Vindas.

Jaco’s Lisbeth Vindas imposed her strength once again, moving out ahead of Jaco’s Nataly Bernold, the currently National Women’s Surf Champion, who did not even make it into the finals.  After losing out last week to Bernold in Playa Carmen, Lisbeth now has regained another 1st place Circuito trophy, and 4-star one at that.

Winning the entire year would give Lisbeth a 6th National Championship. Pavones’ Laura Pecoraro placed 2nd today, and challenged Lisbeth, yet she has not been a threat for a 1st place spot so far this year. It was the Juniors fight that allowed the best heat of the day, and that was their finals.

Carlos Muñoz of Esterillos obtained 1st place with skillful combinations in three waves. He’s another one with two, 4-star 1st place trophies in a row, putting the current National Junior Surf Champion Jairo Pérez at a disadvantage, and in a very unfamiliar position—on where he has to fight to reclaim his National title. The Gran Finals should be one of the most exciting to watch as well in the Junior division.

On the other hand, once again Diego Naranjo (Jaco) copped a win in his alternate discipline, the Longboard category, where he has become strong and consistent. In Dominical, as in Playa Carmen, the last Circuito date, Naranjo managed to hold off the National Longboard Surf Champion Cedric Auffret (Tamarindo) and the Gran Finals will be the determiner of the new champion.

The following and last date of the Circuito Nacional de Surf, the Gran Final Terraza-Reef in Playa Hermosa, is programmed for Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26. This great end of the national, countrywide tournament will be the ultimate weekend of the year as far as surfing. For those days, activities will include the surf contest, the finals of the Miss Surf Natural Organic contest, and a grand Saturday night celebration.

Luis Vindas ganó en Dominical y se suma a la lucha por el Campeonato

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 April, 2008 : - - Playa Dominical, Costa Rica – El surfista de Playa Jacó, Luis Vindas, reiteró hoy su deseo de conseguir su primer Campeonato Nacional al ganar por segunda vez consecutiva en el presente Circuito Nacional. Con esta fecha 4 estrellas de Playa Dominical denominado Torneo Banco Nacional, suma 1500 puntos más a su cuenta personal y se agrega a la lucha por el título que se disputará en la gran final el próximo 26 de abril en Playa Hermosa.

Hoy, los cuatro mejores surfistas de la fecha Jason Torres, Gilbert Brown, Juan Carlos Naranjo y el vencedor Luis Vindas protagonizaron la gran final de la categoría Open, en la que Vindas logró conectar dos buenas combinaciones del olas durante los primeros minutos del heat, suficiente para dejarse el primer lugar.

Torres, Naranjo y Brown, insistían con decoro subir sus puntajes después de ver las actuaciones de Vindas; sin embargo, el ganador sólo esperaba que los minutos pasaran para salir con la victoria en sus manos. Gilbert Brown, en sus estrategias acostumbradas, trató de servirse dos buenas olas hacia la izquierda, pero Luis Vindas había logrado muy altos resultados. Naranjo y Torres se vieron aun más imposibilitados.

Después de esta fecha 4 estrellas, la tensión por el título se ve repartida entre pocos. Luis Vindas después de ganar esta, si hace una buena final y Brown o Torres tropiezan, podría tener buenas posibilidades de luchar el Campeonato. El Campeonato Nacional se lo deja el surfista que logre cuatro mejores fechas del Circuito, en este sentido, se le restan sus tres de menor puntuación.

En la categoría mujeres, Lisbeth Vindas impuso su nivel una vez más. Nataly Bernold que no logró clasificarse a la final, se alejó más de la persecución que le tenía a Vindas. Con esta victoria, Lisbeth podrá surfear tranquila en la gran final. Su séptimo campeonato los tiene casi en sus manos, pero no puede descuidarse, en espacial de las actuaciones de Laura Pecoraro que hoy quedó segunda y se le suma a la lucha por el título para mujeres.

Los Juniors hoy mostraron el mejor heat del día  en la final. Carlos Muñoz de Esterillos, logró el primer lugar de la categoría con combinaciones magistrales en dos y tres olas que reventó. Ahora Muñoz suma dos fechas a favor 4 estrellas. Jairo Pérez ya no pudo conquistar alguna de estas.

Con este gane Muñoz se le pone de cerca de Pérez que parecía fluir en la tabla; sin embargo, viene soltando el acelerador en las últimas tres fechas, lo cual el de Esterillos vio la oportunidad y no desaprovechó. Para la final en Hermosa, la tensión aparecerá también es esta categoría.

Por otro lado, la división Longboard vio ganar una vez más Diego Naranjo que ya adoptó esta disciplina de surf clásico como una fuerte virtud. Hoy le logró ganar otra vez al actual Campeón Cedric Auffret de Tamarindo, para esta categoría, también se ponen calientes las cosas. La final tendrá que definir al nuevo campeón.

La siguiente y última fecha del Circuito Nacional de Surf está programada para el viernes 25 y sábado 26 de este mes. Esta gran final del Circuito será el fin de semana más agitado del año en cuanto a surfing.

Para los tres días de ese fin de semana, están programadas las actividades de: final del Circuito, campeonato nocturno por equipos en Terrazas del pacífico, torneo para bodyboarders y la final de la Miss Surf Organic and Natural para el sábado en la fiesta por la noche.
