The Vendée Pro Kicks Off Next Week

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 April, 2008 : - - The Vendée Pro, an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) 4-Star event, will run its seventh edition from April 15 to 20 at the famous surf venue of La Sauzaie in Brétignolles-Sur-Mer, France. Stop No. 2 of 13 on the 2008 ASP European Pro Surf tour, the Vendée Pro will once again showcase some of the hottest surfers on the planet, bringing pro surfing into some of France's most idyllic country side towns.

Gathering an international field of 96 surfers including 2008 ASP World Tour campaigner Miky Picon (FRA) and 2007 ASP Europe Pro Junior champion Romain Cloître (REU), the Vendée Pro offers US$ 80 000 of prizemoney and valuable points for both ASP WQS and European Pro Surf Tour ratings.

Marcos San Segundo (EUK), 19, current European ratings leader after his ASP WQS 1-Star Goanna Pro victory, will be a favorite among the international field of surfers attending the event. San Segundo, who has been a top junior surfer on the ASP European Pro Junior tour in the past four years, now rises as a potential regional champion but yet has to confirm his excellent start when the first main event of the year gets underway on April 15.

Miky Picon (FRA), 2008 ASP World Tour campaigner and former European Pro Surf Tour champion, will be surfing in the Vendée Pro this year again. Picon, who is currently 29th on the ratings after the first two events of the 2008 Dream Tour, will be a favorite for the crown against the new generation led by 2007 ASP European Pro Junior champion Romain Cloître (REU).

Also attending the Vendée Pro this year will be North Shore's renowned chargers Liam McNamara (HAW) and Tamayo Perry (HAW) who will be serious contenders if the swell hits the reef of La Sauzaie in the 4 to 6 ft range against Europe's top surfers present in France.
