Terry Fitzgerald drops in on l'International Surf Film Fest > Francaise ci-dessous
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 April, 2008 : - - For this fifth edition, the International Surf Film Festival Saint Jean de Luz has the great pleasure to receive a australian surf legend, Terry Fitzgerald, to present his movie Hot Buttered Soul, for the opening the 30th of April.
Terry Fitzgerald emerged at the start of surfing's true pro era -- the '70s -- and played a key role in finally pushing high performance way clear of the sport's longboarding roots and into the realm of the power carve. In his prime, he's represented the peak example of the "total surfer" -- a man who could ride any wave, anywhere, on his own equipment, without compromise.
Fitzgerald carried his design thoughts into Hot Buttered. Along with their unique design twists, his boards became famous for the airbrush spray work of Martin Worthington, who drew anything from leaping dolphins to psychedelic sunsets.
Always a pioneer, Fitzgerald became one of the first big-name surfers to explore Indonesia. He went to Grajagan in 1973 with Gerry Lopez and Sumbawa the '80s before most surfers had even heard the names. His outrageous body-torqued surfing at Jeffreys Bay , South Africa, in 1977 led the sharp-witted Australian surf journalist Phil Jarratt to nickname him "the Sultan of Speed." - Nick Carroll, December 2000
Hot Buttered Soul
The Movie draws on a deep well of surf cinema heritage to present the surfing of the HB extended family. Choice selections from HB’s “Sultans of Speed” series, along with surf flick classics Morning of the Earth, A Winter’s Tale, Fantasea, Storm Riders and more, are expertly intercut by editor Mick Waters, with interviews and commentary from Andrew Kidman and Derek Hynd.
X-Treme Vidéo, partner of the Festival, edit a DVD limited series of this movie with picture dedicated by Terry Fitzgerald himself!

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 April, 2008 : - - Pour sa cinquième édition, l'International Surf Film Festival de Saint Jean de Luz a l'immense plaisir d'accueillir une légende du surf australien, Terry Fitzgerald, qui vient présenter son film Hot Buttered Soul, le mercredi 30 avril lors de la soirée d'ouverture.
Terry Fitzgerald a émergé au vrai début de l’ère du surf pro, dans les années 1970, et a joué un rôle clé dans la transition du longboard au shortboard. À son sommet, il représenta, le mieux, l'exemple du “total surfeur”, un homme qui peut surfer n'importe quelle vague, n'importe où, sur son propre matériel, sans compromis.
Terry Fitzgerald a mis toute son experience au profit de la marque Hot Buttered. Avec des shapes incroyables, ses plaches sont devenues célèbres avec le travail de décoration à l'aérographe de Martin Worthington, dauphins et couchers de soleil psychadéliques.
Toujours pionnier, Fitzgerald fut l'un des premiers grands surfers à explorer l'Indonésie. Il est allé à Grajagan en 1973 avec Gerry Lopez et Sumbawa dans les années 80 avant que la plupart des surfers ne connaissent cette destination.

Ce film montre l'héritage cinématographique surf de la grande famille Hot Buttered. Une sélection des séries de HB “Sultans of Speed”, avec des séquences classiques de Morning of the Earth, A Winter’s Tale, Fantasea, Storm Riders..., tout ça remontée par Mick Waters, avec les interviews et commentaires de Andrew Kidman et Derek Hynd.
