The Quiksilver Goodwave presented by Virgin Mobile in association with Resolution Is Green For Go!

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 21 April, 2008 : - - Durban – A fresh new swell is sweeping the Durban beaches this morning, and more is on the way! The contest organisers have called for the Quiksilver Goodwave – the most popular event on the local calendar – to be run tomorrow Tuesday 22 April, with Wednesday 23 April also looking good and also a possible event date. The call time for tomorrow morning Tuesday is 6 AM sharp at the New Pier.

“We have been monitoring this approaching swell with Spike from www.wavescape.co.za, and we are in complete confidence that the event will run on Tuesday or Wednesday,” said Barry Wolins from Quiksilver. “Some people might not be able to make it due to travel commitments and surf events overseas, but the Goodwave has always been about the waves, and we are due for some excellent waves. It’s not often that all the conditions like wind, swell, tide and sand banks come together like this, so we have to capitalise on it.”

The Quiksilver Goodwave is an invite – only event, with 32 surfers and a number of alternatives selected for the event. The entry fee is still one Rand, the first prize is up to R75,000, and it takes place at New Pier on one of the best days of the year. To ensure that the contest runs off in the best surf possible, the event has an 11-month waiting period. Tuesday 22 April and Wednesday 23 April are looking like they could be two of the best days of the year.
