Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 April, 2008 : - - Peniche - The second day of the Rip Curl Pro Junior powered by Renault was blessed again today with perfect 10.00 point rides and clean barrels, in five foot (1.5 meter) waves at Supertubos. It was a day of performance in Portugal, and Europe’s best under-21 surfers got their start in what is already an event to remember.

Adrien Toyon (REU), 18, a top ASP Europe Pro Junior surfer, got the perfect ride of the day – a 10 out of possible 10) in a 5 ft barrel, Toyon getting deeper than all other competitors to come out with what would take him to Round 3. Backing up his top score with an excellent 8.50 pointer, Toyon dominated today’s statistics by far.

“When I paddled out I saw the waves were getting better,” Toyon said. “I saw the peak was concentrating the swell better and I settled there and got plenty of waves. The perfect ride came to me and the others were too far to catch the wave so I just had for myself.” Toyon, a Reunion Island born surfer used to hollow waves and barrels, was at ease at Supertubos in such conditions.

“I am stoked to surf perfect waves in a competition,” Toyon said. “The tour is getting bigger and we need contests at this time of the year where we know the swells are better. Stoked with that heat.” The Rip Curl Pro Junior, an ASP Europe 3-Star Pro Junior event, got to Round 3 today, sixteen heats held and thirty-two surfers remaining in the event for tomorrow’s 8.30 AM (GMT) check-in.

Dimitri Ouvre (FRA), one of the youngest surfers on tour, showed great comitment and skills today paddling into some of the most challenging waves of the day. Ouvre, who is in his second year among the ASP Europe top junior surfers, posted the second best performance with a near perfect 9.90 point wave. Charles Martin (GLP), 2007 ASP Europe Pro junior No.4, was eliminated for the bigger upset of the event so far.

Hundreds of people and photographers filled the beach today under suny skies and warm temperature. Two days are left in the waiting period and the Rip Curl Pro Junior should get more and more good waves. The event will showcase, for the first time ever, man-on-man heats from the quarterfinals.

Dia da Liberdade Traz Exigência à Competição

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 April, 2008 : - - Peniche - Supertubos continua em forma no segundo dia de competição do Rip Curl Pro Júnior Surf and Music Festival powered by Renault, e apesar do mar ter ficado um pouco mais pequeno, não deixou de estar clássico. Muitos tubos em oferta, mas menos pranchas partidas e mais surfistas a divertirem-se dentro e fora de água.

Se alguém descesse à terra, desconhecendo em que estação do ano nos encontrávamos hoje, apostaria em Agosto, com muito calor, sol, e gente na praia a acompanhar uma competição que foi crescendo ao longo do dia. Com sumos na praia, um pouco de música e excelente ambiente, foram umas horas bem passadas por todos.

Na primeira onda, da primeira bateria do dia, o francês Dimitri Ouvre aguçou o apetite a todos os que por volta das 10 horas da manhã se encontravam na praia, ao executar um tubo de uma forma perfeita, obtendo um 9.90.

Durante todo o dia houve oportunidade para ver momentos deste género, e no final do dia o também francês David Leboulsh conseguiu uma onda parecida com a de Dimitri e obteve um 9.5, acompanhado de uma onda com 7 pontos em 10 pontos possíveis, o que lhe valeu um score total, (a contar as duas melhores ondas), de 16.5. Na bateria seguinte, Adrien Toyon fez mais um tubo impressionante, de onde ninguém imaginava.

O luso-alemão Nicolau Von Rupp, vice-campeão europeu Pro Júnior, conseguiu uma excelente exibição, varrendo os seus adversários com facilidade. Nicolau foi à final na Austrália no início deste ano, para sagrar o campeão mundial de 2007, e pretende voltar lá para repetir ou até melhorar a sua excelente exibição.

Dos portugueses, Frederico Morais mostrou novamente que consegue habituar-se bem à mudança de condições, e pela segunda vez consecutiva entrou na água numa má altura da maré, o que obrigou a uma bateria disputada a manobras, quando o tubo é a manobra exigida pelos júris num local como este.

Também o atleta da Rip Curl, Francisco Alves, wildcard nesta prova, passou a sua bateria em segundo com uma onda pontuada em manobras, aproveitando ao máximo a oportunidade que o seu patrocinador lhe deu: “Ao início a bateria estava a correr-me um pouco mal, mas depois consegui concentrar-me e com um 4.5 passar para a frente da bateria.”

Francisco estava feliz e entusiasmado com o campeonato: “Estou muito contente de estar aqui, há muitos tubos em Super hoje, apesar de na minha bateria não ter encontrado nenhum. Quero fazer todos os Pro Juniores na Europa este ano, e tudo está a começar pelo melhor.”

Para António Pedro, da Alfarroba, estes dias são perfeitos para a competição: “Não podia ser melhor, muito sol, boas ondas, muita gente na praia, e os melhores surfistas juniores da Europa a darem o seu melhor nas ondas de Peniche.”
