Newquay Boardriders Surf Club hosts AGM and calls for support

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 April, 2008 : - - Following a highly positive meeting last week the Newquay Boardriders Club (NBC) is on a mission to grow and develop its vision and membership. This coming Thursday, 1st May will see an AGM taking place between 7pm and 9pm. The hope is that the AGM will formalise the committee structure and terms of reference for the newly elected officers as well as discussing a range of exciting future club development and events.

Since reforming the Newquay Boardriders, the club has gained significant success, retaining back-to-back British Interclub titles as well as running several well entered and supported local competitions.  For the coming season, the NBC is planning several fresh which were put in order of priority at Thursday’s meeting.

These include, creating a new management structure, building up the contest calendar, gaining sponsorship and generating income, creating social events, improved facilities at the club house, pro surfer guidance for groms and setting up a website.

Andy Sturt, Regional Surf Development Coach at the British Surfing Association also gave a talk to the group on the state surfing in the South West, the potential for growth and the avenues that could be explored to develop, maintain and promote NBC. Andy was joined by several BSA coaches who had some great ideas and offered their services to help the club.

Andy Sturt says, “Newquay is the home of British surfing and therefore it is vital to be part of the regional club network. Surf clubs are important to the local community so that people can participate, develop and have fun.”

NBC has already developed some great offers for the membership including the The club has also been able to develop some great offers for the membership including the exclusive option of a North Fistral parking pass, discount on any Adams custom ordered surfboard, third party liability insurance cover and discount entry to NBR events.

Nathaniel Hooton, club secretary said, “Newquay Boardriders Club is for the surfing community of Newquay recreate the surfing spirit and provide a focal point for people to meet, socialise and develop their surfing skills. However we need more volunteers with a passion to see to the club fulfill its potential and to be there for the next up-and-coming surf generations!

So if you want to help or know people that do please attend the next meeting. We’re really keen to see all of our local surfers, no matter what age and what level of surfing, joining us and there’s a really exciting future ahead for us all.”
