ASP tour rookie Dan Ross talks about life so far on tour
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 April, 2008 : - - As the ASP Top 45 gear up for the South Pacific leg of the 2008 ASP World Tour, our rookies have logged in two events and gotten a taste of life amongst the world’s best. Is the Dream Tour everything they thought it would be? This week, What’s On Tour catches up with big wave hellman Dan Ross to see how his first year on tour is panning out so far...
1) Two events down this season, how has your experience on the Dream Tour been so far? "It has been unreal, the Gold Coast was a cool experience, but I had so much fun at bells. The whole atmosphere of that event is crazy. Running down those stairs for a heat was a proud moment for me as a surfer."
2) What’s the best thing about being on the ASP World Tour? "The best thing would have to be the destinations that we have ahead of us for the rest of the year...Tahiti, Fiji, J-Bay, etc. Dream surf locations haha."
3) What’s the worst thing about being on the ASP World Tour? "Um...I’m not sure on that one. It’s all pretty good."
4) What is something unexpected that you’ve found since you’ve become a member of the ASP Top 45? "That they run the girls on the best days of the waiting periods!"
5) Do you have a pre-heat routine? "Before a heat I usually listen to cruisy music - Missy Higgins or something like that. Although at Bells I listened to Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls! And then I do a quick, fast warm up train to switch on the muscles you use surfing. Things like standing on the swiss ball, squats, twisting and rotational work."
