Matt Bromley takes Top Gun award on Day 2 of the Billabong Challenge
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 30 April, 2008 : - - Two red-hot surf sessions went down Tuesday as the eight gladiators on the inaugural Billabong Challenge presented by First National Bank chased adrenaline rushes, cash and glory on the KwaZulu Natal coast.
An early morning barrel-fest was followed by a refueling pit stop before some inside info from a sympathetic local directed the group to the kind of right-hand point that gives the KZN South Coast legendary status, and the boys put in a marathon effort on the long, manoeuvre inducing walls. A pizza feast followed and then it was down to the voting as the comments flew while the video footage and slideshows ran.
The Top Gun award for the surfer of the day went to Kommetjie’s Matt Bromley who doubled his income to R2 000 when he also pocketed the Best Wave prize. Chad du Toit (Berea) flew off with Pilot award and a Grand for the best aerial while Scottburgh hot shot Casey Grant opened his account with R1 000 for the Most Progressive surfing.
The Power Manoeuvre of the day was a toss up between Klee Strachan (Winkelspruit) and Kyle Beach (Queensburgh), so democratically they shared the award with R500 each. The merry band will be scouring the KZN coastline every day until Friday and from now on the participants will vote for the manoeuvres they want rewarded at each spot.
