Bilt Rider Davey Weare Secures Third In Scotland
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 30 April, 2008 : - - Thurso Scotland - Durban surfer Davey Weare, fresh off his incredible win at the Six Star Prime Quiksilver Pro Durban, went on to score a solid third place finish at the O'Neill Highland Open Six Star Prime event in Scotland.
Weare, who has shown inspired surfing since climbing onto his new Bilt surfboards, has been on a run recently, with two victories, a second place and a third place finish in 4 events. Davey won the O'Neill Scottburgh Open, got a close second at the Coppa Del Volcom at New Pier, and won the Quiksilver Pro Durban before securing this third place result in the O'Neill Highland Open.
Davey secured 3000 points for his victory at the Quiksilver Pro Durban, and 2250 for this result, giving him 5250 points for two events. A former ASP top 45 surfer, Davey sits as a favourite for a spot in next year's Dream Tour.
"It was a really close heat and one wave made the difference again," Weare said of his semi-final loss. "Priorities play a major part in man-on-man heats and Adam (Robertson) got the ultimate better wave to make it. It has been a really successful trip to Scotland for me and it is a very good result. I will be back for sure." The event was won by Adam Robertson (Victoria, AUS) from Adam Melling (Gold Coast, Aus) in the glassy three-foot surf of Thurso East.
Davey has been heaping praise over his recent contest results on his shaper, Elton Fursman, who has made him some dream boards recently. "I am so stoked to have these boards underfoot, and to be working with Elton on my equipment," said Davey. "The boards I have are giving me so much confidence, and I have been training hard as well. So it's all working out for me."
