Another day and another super surf session on the Billabong Challenge > Scroll down for Zigzag video
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 May, 2008 : - - Another day and although the early onset of onshore wind served up only one session for the Billabong Challenge presented by First National Bank. the eight surf stars went ballistic again on the KwaZulu Natal coast on Wednesday.
After passing up two spots that were firing but already had a crew of locals enjoying their home waters, the crew found an empty semi-secret location that was producing hollow right-handers. They proceeded to rip, tear and lacerate as only those with boundless energy and fertile imaginations can.
Many progressive and futuristic manoeuvres later everyone piled into an afternoon of ping pong frenzy before a settling down to vote on the accolades and cash distribution for Day 3.
Dale Staples took out the ‘Combo’ award for linking up three of the best turns of the day; Shaun Payne hooked the ‘Best Carve’; Chad du Toit performed the biggest variety of new school manoeuvres to grab the ‘Progression’ award and also shared the ‘Top Gun’ award with Mark Shepperson as the day’s top surfers. Each award winner pocketed R1 000.
The boys are out here right now scouring the KZN coastline for more action and you can catch up on the past three days images and video clips on zigzag.co.za The Billabong Challenge is presented by First National Bank (FNB) who have provided prize-money of R20 000 to fuel this unique format.
