Ben Haworth wins the English Longboard Title
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 May, 2008 : - - Eighteen year old Ben Haworth from North Devon won the English National Longboard title at Watergate Bay over the bank holiday weekend. Ben was the youngest in the final and beat seasoned competitors including James Parry, Ben Howey and Ben Byfield to take the crown.
The final was contested in poor quality low tide conditions at Watergate with a brisk cross shore wind chopping up the waves and making it difficult to find long rides, but the youngster succeeded in pulling off some radical moves to impress the judges.
This success at home comes shortly after Ben has returned from three months winter training in Australia where he won the prestigious Men’s Amateur title at the Noosa Festival of Surfing beating 5 Australians in the final. These results clearly mark out Ben as one of the most outstanding young longboard talents produced by Britain and demonstrate his potential to carve out a career on the international scene.
