All The Action From The Quiksilver Pro Durban For Episode 7!

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 May, 2008 : - - There has been a run of action in the surf scene recently, and Boardriders TV has been there to capture it all, edit it and package it into the exciting and popular Boardriders TV format. Episode 7 of this radical series is set in amongst the recent Quiksilver Pro Durban, and covers all the riders, the dramas and the waves, and includes interviews and profiles of some of the top surfers in the world.

For the first few days of the event, all the action takes place at the New Pier, and radical futuristic surfing was the name of the game, with the odd barrel ride thrown in whenever New Pier felt like sending one.

Chris Davidson stamped his authority on the contest midway through the event, scoring a perfect 10-point score for a ride that didn’t even include a tube-ride but instead comprised a series of radical, do-or-die turns on a good looking wave, finishing off in the shallows for the judges to give him the thumbs up for a 10-pointer. In the inaugural event last year it was Chris Davidson who scored the event’s first 10-point ride, so it was a case of pleasant deja vu for the Australian rider.

Despite the fact that they were surfing in their backyard, many South African surfers failed to live up to expectations in the event, and the pressure of the country fell on the shoulders of Davey Weare from Durban. Luckily Davey has broad shoulders. His surfing throughout the event had been a mix of inspired carving, new-school airs and rail grabs, and Davey was displaying a relaxed demeanour throughout.

When the final day dawned it was decided to take the event to Ansteys on The Bluff as the waves at the New Pier were deemed unacceptable. Davey was still on his game, changed his board accordingly for the different waves on hand at Ansteys and went to town. He made it all the way through to the final where he came up against the American Austin Ware.

All the action and excitement of this final is caught on Boardriders TV, so check out the first showing of episode 7, on this Monday 12 May at 18h00 on SS1. Boardriders TV is produced by Invisible Cactus Entertainment. Boardriders TV is presented by Virgin Mobile in association with Resolution.
