Picon Places 9th in Billabong Pro Tahiti for his Best Result Ever

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 May, 2008 : - - Teahupoo – Miky Picon (Capbreton, FRA), 29, posted his best result ever in an ASP World Tour event last night when he placed equal 9th in the Billabong Pro Tahiti pres. by Air Tahiti Nui. Picon, who was eliminated by Bruce Irons (HAW) in a wave-starved heat in Round 4, secures his best result this year after getting a 17th and 33rd in the two first events of the 2008 ASP World Tour. He is now rated equal 21st in the world.

Picon, who is on his second season among the ASP Top 45 after his rookie year in 2006, put on a strong performance when he defeated former ASP Rookie of the Year and 2006 Billabong Pro Tahiti Champion Bobby Martinez (USA) in three to four foot (1 to 1.2 meter) waves to advance into Round 4.

Picon, who was supported by fellow European surfers and close friends Jeremy Flores (FRA) and Tiago Pires (PRT), led his Round 4 battle until Irons found back-to-back scores including an excellent 8.83 point ride to take the win and stop the Frenchman.

Picon, who was the best European of the event apart from wildcard and runner-up French Polynesian Manoa Drollet (PYF), will now attend the Globe Fiji Pro, Stop No. 4 on the 2008 ASP World Tour. Being a goofyfooter (right foot in front of his board), Picon was impatient to surf the barreling lefthanders of the South Pacific and will be much expected at Fiji where he got 17th in 2006.
