The 'Keahana Concept' connects with Surfboard Tracker
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 May, 2008 : - - Utopia Surf Factory, Mimizan, have, been testing out the new hi tech board build process everyone has been talking about known as the 'Keahana Concept'. The new style board and blank construction is believed to have wetted the appetite of many shapers producing a pristine whiter than white blank, and fantastic epoxy resin finish, and a responsive board admired by professionals.
Currently, companies such as Lost, Channel Islands, Xanadu, Sharp Eye, Mystic, Plus One, Utopia Surf and many others are in production or have been testing the product and the production method. Keahana are currently out in South West France, on their European Keahana Concept promotional tour giving shapers the opportunity to actually produce a board using the system, soon to be in Spain, Portugal and the UK.
Keahana grew out from the embers of an aeronautical project, two guys Marcus Da Silva and Raul Espinosa two of the hardest working valets on the Cardiff Coast, California picked it up and re-developed the technology into the Keahana Concept for surfboard manufacturing.
The feedback is positive, Keahana are the only company in the Western Hemisphere, if not worldwide, who manufactures all the components, blanks, resin, hardener, oven, cloth, fins, fin plugs, and fin tools necessary to produce a surfboard
A professional surfer by the name of Christiano Guimarães was the first to trial this newly constructed surfboard and was so impressed with the lightness and speed of the surfboard, the performance was unquestionable. Since then the Keahana board has passed all it tests, tried and tested by surfers such as Flyn Novakm, Dane Reynolds and Tim Curren, Chris Ward all riding the Keahana construction today and is full production.
Richard Henty principle shaper for Utopia Surf, was given the opportunity to produce his own Keahana shape using the Keahana system and was really impressed. He also added the SBT implant into the Keahana board. Richard said,
"We are really impressed with the Keahana system, the quality, and finish, it was an absolute privilege to be able to produce and test their system here in France, we added the SBT implant as we use SBT for our own boards it just made sense to put the SBT implant in, we thought nothing of it, but the guy from Keahana was stoked the see SBT system and the value it added"
SBT has already strong ties in Brazil with Henry Lelot, The Surfboard Shapers Society, Hyper Surfboards, Teccell and Viking Surfboards in Santos where the SBT system is commonly used.
Keahana are next off to Spain, Portugal and then moving on to the UK, where they hope to tie up with Welsh company Surfboard Tracker.
