Epic conditions forecast for the start of Globe Pro Fiji 2008

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 23 May, 2008 : - - The 2008 Globe Pro Fiji, due to get underway off the islands of Tavarua and Namotu this weekend is likely to have conditions that surfers travel the world to get. With the world famous Restaurant's break in front of the Tavarua resort starting to work yesterday and today, conditions look set for a flying start.

Globe event director , Michael Marckx said "If we can get started at Restaurant's as forecast for a couple of days and then move to Cloudbreak, then the Globe Pro Fiji is set again to claim the mantle as the dream event on the ASP world tour.

"With current world champion  Mick Fanning  and eight times world champion Kelly Slater and dual Fijian champion Damien Hobgood due to arrive tomorrow for the opening ceremony, we are set for a classic event."

2008 Globe Pro Fiji - THE EVENT

The Globe Pro Fiji is one of the world's premier surf events, run in prime season from May 24 to June 6 at one of the world's truly classic surf locations off the island of Tavarua and Namotu, Fiji. As the fourth event on the 2008 ASP’s Men’s World Tour, the Globe Pro Fiji perfectly encapsulates the spirit of World Championship Surfing, centered on the dream concept of idyllic locations and awesome waves.

The surf set-up between Tavarua and Namotu Islands consists of two super-long left-hand breaking reef waves. Cloudbreak offers ideal surf from 4 to 12 ft that suits full-powered and radical wave face surfing together with long tube sections.

Closer to Tavarua Island sits the break of Restaurants - a super fast, perfect barreling long left over shallow reef that comes into play when the outer Cloudbreak reef is maxing out. Both breaks epitomize all the best elements of surfing and with the worlds best surfers surfing for World Championship Tour points, it's simply the ideal location.

The 2008 Globe Pro Fiji will be webcast live via globeprofiji.com each day with multiple camera angles including water and aerial shots, highlights and replays, weather and scoring information, direct viewer interaction, celebrity guests, interviews and more are all part of the daily webcast program.

A LIVE webcast of the Globe Pro Fiji will be available on aspworldtour.com and globeprofiji.com.
