Globe Pro Fiji Off for the Day

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 May, 2008 : - - Tavarua -- Sixteen of the ASP Top 45 surfers are still in contention for a Globe Pro Fiji crown, but that title will not be won today. Waning swell has forced event officials to call competition in Fiji off. Rounds 1 through 3 of the Globe Pro Fiji were completed in excellent surf the first three days of the official waiting period. There are nine days left in which to monitor conditions and run the final day.

Former winner C.J. Hobgood (USA) will meet fellow American Chris Ward (USA) in Heat 6 of Round 4. They met in Round 4 of the last ASP World Tour event in Tahiti as well. Hobgood won that heat.

“Chris has been on fire lately and we actually met in this same round in a pretty good grudge match Tahiti too,” Hobgood said. “I’m sure he’ll want to get me back. He’s surfing well and I’ve been feeling pretty good too. Hopefully we get some waves and it can be a really good match-up.”

Another call on competition status will be made tomorrow morning at 7am.

Globe Pro Fiji Round 4 Match-Ups:
Heat 1: Bede Durbidge (AUS) vs. Luke Stedman (AUS)
Heat 2: Tim Reyes (USA) vs. Taj Burrow (AUS)
Heat 3: Bobby Martinez (USA) vs. Adrian Buchan (AUS)
Heat 4: Damien Hobgood (USA) vs. Kelly Slater (USA)
Heat 5: Mick Fanning (AUS) vs. Dayyan Neve (AUS)
Heat 6: Chris Ward (USA) vs. C.J. Hobgood (USA)
Heat 7: Joel Parkinson (AUS) vs. Pancho Sullivan (HAW)
Heat 8: Frederick Patacchia (HAW) vs. Adriano de Souza (BRA)
