No ASP World Tour Surfing at the Globe Pro Fiji Today

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 31 May, 2008 : - -  Tavarua – The islands of Tavarua and Namotu will shift from relaxation havens to homebase for battle as the remaining 16 surfers in the Globe Pro Fiji ready themselves for action tomorrow. Competition is off for the fifth consecutive day today, but all indications point to Round 4 of the Globe Pro Fiji resuming at Cloudbreak tomorrow, Monday, June 2, 2008.

Hawaii’s Pancho Sullivan will meet ASP World No. 2 Joel Parkinson (AUS) in Heat 7 of Round 4. Sullivan has been a member of the Top 45 for three years to Parkinson’s eight. The Globe Pro Fiji wasn’t held in 2007, making this Sullivan’s second ASP World Tour event in Fiji.

Parkinson isn’t looking at his extra competitive experience at Cloudbreak as an advantage over Sullivan.“Pancho is from Hawaii and he knows how to ride big waves and barrels better than anyone,” Parkinson said. “It’s a level playing field, I guess the man of the moment will be whoever get the good waves and surfs them the right way.”

Sullivan, who is rated equal 30th at the moment, isn’t too fazed about going up against the current World No. 2.

“I’m looking forward to surfing against Parko,” Sullivan said. “I know that everytime you surf against a world title contender that plays into what people want to see, so I just have to step it up. I know that if I get into a rhythm and get the waves, I’m capable of winning. I’m just going to go out there and do my thing.”

Another call on competition status will be made tomorrow at 7am.

Globe Pro Fiji Round 4 Match-Ups:
Heat 1: Bede Durbidge (AUS) vs. Luke Stedman (AUS)
Heat 2: Tim Reyes (USA) vs. Taj Burrow (AUS)
Heat 3: Bobby Martinez (USA) vs. Adrian Buchan (AUS)
Heat 4: Damien Hobgood (USA) vs. Kelly Slater (USA)
Heat 5: Mick Fanning (AUS) vs. Dayyan Neve (AUS)
Heat 6: Chris Ward (USA) vs. C.J. Hobgood (USA)
Heat 7: Joel Parkinson (AUS) vs. Pancho Sullivan (HAW)
Heat 8: Frederick Patacchia (HAW) vs. Adriano de Souza (BRA)
