11th Annual T&C Surf Grom Contest coming to Queen's

11th annual T&C Surf Grom Contest
presented by 3Dimensional

Queen's Waikiki Oahu
12 - 13 July 2008

Grom phenoms ready to shred Waikiki

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 June, 2008 : - - Honolulu – T&C Surf invites the public to the 11th Annual T&C Surf Grom Contest presented by 3Dimensional. Join the T&C ohana July 12-13 at Queen’s surf break in Waikiki for a weekend full of surf, fun and sun.

The event gives surfers age 14 and younger the chance to have one of the South shore’s premier surf breaks all to themselves. Groms take to the waves in the shadow of the legendary Duke Kahanamoku statue at Kuhio Beach. T&C produces the event each year to introduce young surfers to the world of competitive surfing.

The fun kicks off Saturday with a full day of heats in three divisions: shortboard, longboard and bodyboard. This year’s format also includes a separate shortboard division for girls.

Parents, uncles, aunties and kids from across the island chain pack the beach to support their favorite little ripper. Passing the time between heats, kids enjoy beach games and score prizes from their favorite surf brands. Before the sun sets, the top young rippers will advance to the finals on Sunday.

Adding some star power to Saturday’s killer line-up of competition, beach games and fun is the Surfer magazine “Hot 100 Air Invitational.” Hawaii’s most promising young surfers -  named by Surfer magazine as some of the “Hot 100” young surfers in the world - bust big airs to earn their share of $2,500 in cash.

This year’s invitees include grom phenoms Jon Jon Florence, Carissa Moore, Ezekiel Lau, Keanu Asing, Kalani David, Coco Ho and Luke Hitchcock.

“Surfer magazine is extremely proud to support keiki by presenting the ‘Surfer Magazine Hot 100 Air Invitational,’” says Rick Irons, publisher of Surfer magazine. “This element of the T&C Grom contest gives kids a chance to meet some of the islands' best aerialists and to see them in action, up close! Big props to T&C for bringing such a great event to the kids of Hawaii every year!”

Families enjoy a day at the beach that lets parents introduce their keiki to competitive surfing in a supportive environment. Adults can also get in on the fun by signing up for the “Board Stories Expression Session” on Sunday afternoon. They join the keiki in a special adult/child tandem surf event that gives them the opportunity to share the waves family style.

“Year after year it just keeps getting better,” says Mike Latronic, producer of Board Stories Television. “We’re proud to be part of T&C’s fun in the sun at Queen’s and to share the stoke with kids and their families.” The Expression Session is open to all adults and children under age 10. On-site entry is free (limited to 10 entries) and prizes are awarded to the top three teams.

The event wraps up with the final heats on Sunday, where the top six in each division receive trophies and prize packs filled with surf products from event sponsors. Board Stories Television will also produce a segment with highlights from the weekend-long event. Entry forms are available at all T&C Surf locations and online at TCSurf.com/grom08. A portion of the entry fees will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Honolulu.
