Weare the local favourite for Mr Price Pro 2008

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 June, 2008 : - - Among a strong South African surfing contingent that is set to launch their assault on the imminent 6-Star rated Mr Price Pro, one prominent local wave rider stands out above the rest and that is David Weare from Durban North.

Weare is currently lying sixth on the men’s World Qualifying Series rankings and following his stunning victory at the Quiksilver Pro Durban in April, he is the unequivocal favourite to  become only the second South African to win the Mr Price Pro in nearly three decades. The former ASP World Tour campaigner said he was absolutely “amped” for the event, which gets underway at Durban’s New Pier Beach from June 27 to July 6.

“It’s absolutely awesome to take part in another big event at home, it just makes it one step easier for us local surfers. I have been fortunate enough to have travelled the world as a surfer but for me I just love coming back home to Durban where I grew up. It’s my favourite break and I just love surfing here.”

Weare has had an incredible start to the year and said he just hoped he could maintain his run of good form. “My aim this year was to finish first on the World Qualifying Series (WQS) and obviously a win at the Mr Price Pro would go a long way in ensuring I achieve that.”

The R1.3m Mr Price Pro will see nearly 200 competitors from around the world migrate to Durban to compete. The event is the largest of its kind in South Africa and includes a 6-Star ASP WQS Men's division, 5-Star ASP WQS Women's division as well as a 3A Rated Surfing South Africa Pro Junior division.
