Nike 6.0 presents live webcast of NSSA Nationals

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 24 June, 2008 : - - San Clemente -- Nike 6.0 is pleased to announce it will present a three-day live webcast of the 2008 NSSA National Open Championships presented by No Fear at Lower Trestles, San Clemente, Calif. The last three days of the event, which runs Tuesday, June 24 through Saturday, June 28, will be webcast at surfingthemag.com.

“NSSA Nationals is not only a showcase for the World Champs of tomorrow, it is a gathering of surf communities from all over the country,” said Zach Boon, Assoc. Brand Manager, Nike Action Sports. “The opportunity to bridge this community and its surfers with the entire world is something that Nike 6.0 is pumped to be a part of.”

Now celebrating its 30th anniversary, the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) plays host to the biggest and best domestic event in amateur surfing and a major stepping-stone for emerging young talent. The contest is the only amateur event held at the prestigious and ASP World Tour-worthy Lower Trestles break. The move to Lower Trestles, from Oceanside in 1992, has been credited with giving the young up-and-coming competitors the ultimate high-performance stage, making it a true scouting event for future “Big League” talent.

The webcast will include coverage of all rounds of the Open Men’s, Open Women’s beginning with Round Two, Open Junior’s beginning with Round Three, as well as, Open Boys and Open Mini Grom beginning with the Quarterfinals.  Saturdays coverage will include the National Explorer Championships, National Airshow Championships, National Open Championships and the California State Parks Governor’s Cup Finals.

The legacy of NSSA National Champions is extensive. The organization has produced some of the nation’s best surfers including former champs Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, Kalani Robb, Andy Irons, Bruce Irons, CJ Hobgood, Bobby Martinez, Fred Patacchia, Carissa Moore and Tonino Benson. 2008 will be the second year that the event will feature a live webcast.

In addition to live action, scoring and results, webcast hosts including Surfing Magazine Editor Evan Slater, Dave Stansfield, big wave charger Peter Mel and Saxon Boucher, will provide expert commentary and insights. The day following the 2008 NSSA National Championships, the Nike 6.0 Pier Pressure presented by Jack’s will commence just up the coast in Huntington Beach.

Several of the top Open Men’s and Junior Men’s contenders from the NSSA National Championships will switch gears and head into the Nike 6.0 Pier Pressure Pro Junior including four-time National Champion Granger Larsen (Lahaina, HI), fellow Hawaiians Alex Smith (Kilauea, HI), Kai Barger (Haiku, HI) and Keanu Asing (Ewa Beach, HI), Southwest Conference No. 1 Dane Zaun (Hollyglen, CA), Dillon Perillo (Malibu, CA), Brent Reilly (Carlsbad, CA), Northwest Conference top seed Nat Young (Santa Cruz, CA), East Coast phenom Evan Geiselman (New Smyrna Beach, Fl) and defending Open Juniors Champion Andrew Doheny (Newport Beach, Ca), to name a few.
