Inaugural Insight Surfing Open attracts 32 competitors to The Pipe at Strand Beach

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 June, 2008 : - - Thirty two surfers of all ages took part in the inaugural Insight Surfing Open presented by Natural Energy Surf Shop at The Pipe, Strand Beach on Saturday June 21.

Contestable 2-4 foot surf ensured that competitors posted some excellent scores throughout the event with Strand local JP Olivier earning the accolade for the Best ride of the day when he scored an 8 pointer.

After a full day of competition Joske de Beer of Melkbosstrand took honours in the final, beating off the challenge of second placed Frank Solomons of Llandudno, third placed Philip Visagie of Tableview and another Boland local, Jurie Van Staden who was fourth. Shane Pratt of Strand and KZN visitor Chad Schwab were the beaten semi finalists.

The prize for the youngest competitor and biggest wave ridden for his size went to local grom Adin Masencamp of Strand. At the well attended prizegiving held at the Springbok Club in Stellenbosch, Black Market Riots provided the musical entertainment and Reef Wetsuits, Hurricane Accessories, Arnette Sunglasses and Insight Clothing provided the prizes.

The event was sanctioned by Boland Surfing Association and officials were supplied by Surfing South Africa.
