Hawaii's Elite Element Academy surfers score at NSSA Nationals

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 30 June, 2008 : - - On June 21, 2008 Elite Element Academy students competed in the National Scholastic Surfing Association – National Surf Championship against other schools from the east and west coast.

This is the first year that Elite Element Academy (E2A) has participated in the event and that a Hawaii school team has made it to the finals in the main event.  Moreover, E2A tied for first place with Carlsbad High School (California school) an annual contending finalist.  NSSA has never come to a tiebreaker for first place.

    Surf-Offs

Perfect waves, ideal weather, and the top high school surfers in the country competed in the first National Scholastic Surfing Association’s high school championship Surf-Off. In an exciting final round on Saturday, June 22, 2008 Elite Element Academy and Carlsbad High tied for first place in the championship finals.

The Surf-Off required each school to choose 3 students for the final tie-breaker competition.  The 3 students competed in a six-man, 20-minute heat.  Leading them to battle each other once more in a Surf-Off held today at Lower Trestles in San Clemente, California. The 2 finalists from Hawaii and California went head to head today with Elite Element Academy coming out on top and taking the overall win.
