17-year-old Josh Hughes take on The Cribber sans ski
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 3 July, 2008 : - - A plucky (just turned) 17 year old surfer, Josh Hughes, yesterday took on the Cribber and is thought to be the youngest ever to surf the challenging wave. More than that, although Josh was amped up for the wave, no-one would loan him the bigger board he needed to take it on.
Sheer determination saw him persuading a local shop to let him borrow the size and shape of board he needed to conquer the Cribber. Whilst way more experienced surfers towed in at the UK's legendary spot, Josh was then unable to catch a tow because at only 17 he's too young to be insured. Again, undeterred he paddled into the 20 ft face whilst others around him had the aid of the tow, and without a doubt experienced the ride of his life!
