Tanner Hendrickson equals Rip Curl GromSearch Maui Champ

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 July, 2008 : - - This past Saturday, July 12, the best young surfers form around the Aloha State brought their A-game to Lahaina, Maui for the right to claim Rip Curl GromSearch glory and hopefully represent the 808 with an invite to the National Final this November.

With fun, rippable surf gracing the line-up, the Rip Curl GromSearch Presented by BOOST Mobile showcased top talents in respected divisions with GromSearch veterans utilizing experience and excelling.

The playful surf proved perfect for Hawaii’s hottest 16 and under talent to do work. With cash money prizes, trips to the Boost Mobile Pro, invites to the National Final, and the newest in Boost Mobile cell phone technology on the line, it’s no wonder the groms came ready, shred sleds unsheathed and ready for battle.

The 16 and under was a classic battle as heavy hitters Makana Eleogram, Albee Layer, Tanner Hendrickson and Dylan Goodale clashed with one thing on their minds, the utter dismantling of each wave caught.  But it was the 4 year G-Search veteran, Tanner Hendrickson, who took fate into his own hands, ripping the roof off consecutive times on a set wave en route to a high 8 point ride, sealing the phone, the cash, the loot, and the bragging rights all at the same time.

“I got lucky,” released a hyped-up Hendrickson to specatators during the award ceremony. “I love doing these events.  I am so pumped to go to Cali for the BOOST Mobile Pro.  I heard it is killer.”

Habitually shredding the shores of Hookipa, young Kain Daly brought his act out to Lahaina this past Saturday, making double finals in both the Boys 14 and 12 under divisions.  With tough competition coming from Luke Hitchcock, Cole Walter, and Dylan Walsh, it was no match for Daly’s vicious fore hand attach.

In the 12 and under, Daly hit a roadblock in the form of Lahaina Harbor’s Imaikalani Devault, as the young regularfooter banked his way to a victory and narrowly wiped out the dream of a double win.  To round it out for a Maui sweep, in the Girls 16/under Lani Doherty managed to lock in a big score in the dying moments to solidify the win and lock in her spot to the Rip Curl GromSearch National Finals in November at Creek.

Upon completion of the event, it was a gathering of the tribe at the Rip Curl Surf Center in Lahaina Maui, where the award hardware was handed out, the groms grubbed down, and caught a peak at Rip Curl's newest surf flick, "Somewhere...".

The Rip Curl GromSearch presented by Boost Mobile heads back to Cali August 2nd for the final stop on the west coast before heading east.  With the venue set at Pleasure Point, Santa Cruz, we can look forward to long rights filled accessorized with ripping groms.  Stay tuned to ripcurl.com for all news, updates, photos, and videos!!!
