Round 3 Action Off Today Billabong Pro Looks Good for Restart Tomorrow

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 July, 2008 : - - Jeffreys Bay -- After monitoring conditions at Jeffreys Bay for close to eight hours, event organizers have officially called Round 3 of the Billabong Pro off for the day.

“First we waited for the wind to clock around, which it did as forecast, but the swell never got consistent enough to run heats,” Contest Director Mike Parsons said. “There were some nice waves which came through throughout the day, but when you looked at a 30-minute period, there were only one or two good waves.”

The contest director, surfer’s rep and head judge determine whether or not there are enough waves for each competitor to post two good scoring rides in a heat before calling the event on or off each day. Unfortunately, they didn’t see enough scoring potential for the remaining 32 ASP World Tour surfers at JBay today.

“There is a really nice swell, the second part of this one, on the map for tomorrow and we are still optimistic that tomorrow will be a really great day,” Parsons said. “We’re down to two days left and we just felt that running on Wednesday and Thursday was a much better option. All of the surfers were onboard with that decision there is just not enough consistency to run heats today.”

At this point, it is highly likely that Round 3 of the Billabong Pro will start at 7:15 tomorrow morning but an official call will be made at 7am. Visit aspworldtour.com and billabongpro.com for additional information, including videos and photos.
