Roxy ASP Women's World Longboard Champion To be Crowned Wednesday

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 July, 2008 : - -Biarritz -- The Roxy ASP Women’s World Longboard Championships (WWLC) will come to an end tomorrow at La Cote des Basques in Biarritz, and the 2008 ASP Women’s World Longboard Champion will be crowned. Seven heats only remain to complete the 2008 edition and all eight quarterfinalists will meet at 8 AM (GMT+1) with contest officials to make the call.

A new swell is on its way and tomorrow is expected to deliver consistent three foot (one meter) waves with no wind forecasted so far. Jennifer Smith (USA), defending Roxy Pro champion and reigning ASP Women’s World Longboard Champion, will surf in Quarterfinal No.2 against Roxy girl and top competitor Kassia Meador (USA).

Philippe Malvaux (FRA), Roxy Asp WWLC contest director, is confident in giving the best female longboarders in the world some good conditions for the showdown. "We are expecting some good quality waves for the finals", Malvaux said. "This second swell is already arriving at La Cote des Basques today and I hope our last girls in the event offer the crowd a great show in great waves."

Justine Dupont (FRA), 2007 ASP World No.2 and last French representative in the event, will face Leah Dawson (USA) in Quarterfinal No. 3 and aims at the title for her second appearance in the event. The Roxy Pro Junior, an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Grade-2 Women’s Junior event, will finish this afternoon and crown the 2008 champion.
