Vans Pro Junior to kick off in San Sebastian on Thursday
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 July, 2008 : - - The Vans Pro Junior, an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Grade-1 Pro Junior event, will start Thursday in San Sebastian, Basque country. The beach of La Zurriola will have its first ever gathering of Europe's top Under-21 surfing professionals.
Maxime Huscenot (REU), current ASP European Junior leader after his two excellent results in the main events of the year, will be much awaited with his fantastic assaults and variety at the Basque beachbreak.
Marc Lacomare (FRA) current No.5 on the ASP European Junior ratings, will be one of the favorite surfers with two excellent results under his belt this year. Lacomare won the ASP Grade-3 Rip Curl Pro Junior in Portugal in April and placed 4th in the ISA World Junior Championships in France last May.
Jatyr Berasaluce (EUK),current leading Basque surfer,will be another favorite among the potential winners. Berasaluce is in contention for a second consecutive ASP World Junior Championships qualification. Naoum Ildefonsse (FRA) and Yassine Ramdaini (MAR), two of Europe's current leading Under-21 surfers, both placed equal 3rd in the biggest event of the year in the Canary Islands and are as well in contention of the ASP World Junior Championships.
The current French domination of the European ratings has made it a challenge for all other nations to try and get back to the top of the hierarchy and current best Basque surfer Jatyr Berasaluce (EUK) will be a favorite at his home break.
