Dungeons Kicking Into Gear For Possible Event Start Tomorrow
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 July, 2008 : - - Hout Bay, Cape Town - While a bunch of good looking waves rolled over the Dungeons Reef in front of the co-contest directors Gary Linden and Johnny Paarman this morning, all signs point to a better day tomorrow.
Standing on the Sentinel Mountain, Paarman maintains that the best is yet to come, as predicted "Right now the swell is doing exactly what the weather models have been showing," said Johnny just after sunrise this morning.
"There are some good waves coming through in the ten to twelve-foot region, with bigger sets, but it's still a bit fat and sluggish. As the swell period increases we should start seeing some more size and dredge to the sets. It still looks like we're going to have that real Dungeons day tomorrow."
The Red Bull Big Wave Africa official surf forecaster Steve 'Spike' Pike from wavescape.co.za agrees that tomorrow could be a good day of surfing. "There will be some big waves breaking at Dungeons tomorrow morning," said Spike on the predicted Saturday swell. "and the north-westerly wind arrives tomorrow as well."
For now, some surfers are heading out for a practise session at Dungeons in the growing swell, and the event status remains on Amber Alert. Should the event get a Green For Go tomorrow, the event website - redbullbwa.com - will be broadcasting a live webcast, and the event in its entirety will be beamed onto computer screens around the world.
Also, check out the daily blog on the website to see what the surfers are up to, and have a look at the images that will be loaded from today's practise session.

PM Update:
Contest Still Looking Good For Tomorrow - Organisers Have Called An Early Start,
Hout Bay, Cape Town - all the weather models are holding steady, the swell at Dungeons has been growing all day, and contest organisers are feeling positive about the Red Bull Big Wave Africa running tomorrow.
The surf this afternoon was solid and clean, and the crew had some fun out there as a taste of what's to come. The practise session saw a total of six boards broken, while Andy Marr and local alternate Frank Solomon paddled into some solid waves, and Charles Reitz had a big wipe-out and is suspected to have broken a rib.
As co-contest director Gary Linden mentioned, the north-west wind was not a hindrance for the waves today, and is the same wind predicted for tomorrow. "Everything is still as predicted," said Linden as he got out of his wetsuit from an evening session. "Tomorrow morning is going to have light winds, and a peaking swell in the morning, so we're looking good to go. "
Should the event run tomorrow there will be a live webcast portal from the event site so people can watch the event all over the world.
