    Grade 1 ASP Pro Junior Men's Event
    Kuhio Beach, Waikiki Hawaii

    Top Pro Juniors Carry Torch in Duke Kahanamoku Celebration

    Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 August, 2008 : - - Honolulu -- Next will hit the stage at Duke's OceanFest on Monday, August 18, in the Grade 1, $5,000 Macy's E-Series Junior Pro at Kuhio Beach, Waikiki. Featuring Hawaii's hottest junior surfers - ages 20 and under - the Macy's event will be your best opportunity to witness the next generation of famous Hawaiian surfing families, carrying on a tradition that would make The Duke proud.

    Micah and Isaiah Moniz (sons of Tony Moniz - big wave rider and former pro surfer); Kaimana Jaquias (son of Kaipo Jaquias - former world No.5 and Vans Triple Crown champion); Ha'a Aikau (son of Clyde Aikau - big wave rider and winner of inaugural Quiksilver Eddie Aikau at Waimea Bay);

    Mason Ho (son of Michael Ho - venerated Pipe Master and former world No.3); and Makai McNamara (son of Liam McNamara - another master of the Pipeline, and nephew of Garrett McNamara - legendary big wave rider) will join an elite field of juniors contesting the event. They will have their work cut out for them as they take on many of the most influential junior surfers in the world today, including Clay Marzo (Maui), and Kiron Jabour (Haleiwa).

    Marzo, 18, and Jabour, 17, are no strangers to elite level competition. Jabour already has one pro junior title under his belt this year - posting a win at Sunset Beach back in January, and Marzo has featured in the finals of national and international events over the past three years and is the star of the new film "Just Add Water", now releasing nationally.

    The Macy's E-Series Junior Pro is one of three junior pro events to be held in Hawaii this year and will be used as a qualifier for the World Junior Championships in Australia in January of 2009.The winner will receive $1,000.

    The Macy's E-Series Junior Pro is the third and final event of the 2008 Macy's E-Series, staged this summer. The first two events were 1-star World Qualifying Series events as part of the ASP World Tour. ASP Hawaii and Macy's collaborated to produce the Macy's E-Series, giving Hawaii's pro surfing community a much needed opportunity to win valuable points and prizemoney at home breaks.
