Sizzling scores highlight day three of Na Papa Australian Surfmasters Titles

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 26 August, 2008 : - - Port Macquarie, NSW -- Australia’s best surfers continued to shine at the Na Papa Australian Surfmasters Titles today at Port Macquarie. If the conditions could improve on the outstanding level which has adorned Port Macquarie famed beach-breaks, they managed to take it another level, turning on rippable, two-metre walls.

Stephen Walsh (Lennox Head, NSW) was again in destructive form, ripping apart the right-handers with speed and power. Revelling in the excellent conditions, Walsh enjoyed his surfing this morning. “It’s pumping again,” Walsh said. “I’m not sure how to compare it yesterday, but it is still so much fun and all the guys are surfing so well.”

Having been consistently throwing up scores within the eight and nine point range, Walsh continued on his way with an 8.75 (point ride out of a possible 10) this morning. However as the best in Australia battle it out for a prestigious Na Papa Australian title, the standard of surfing has continue to rise, something that Walsh believes rivals world-class, international events.

“The level of surfing on show is unbelievable,” Walsh admitted. “It’s like surfing in a WQS (ASP World Qualifying Series) event.” “Being in my first Na Papa Australian Titles, this is really good for my surfing and confidence.” Featuring an eclectic combination of competitors, the Na Papa Australian Surfmasters Titles sees surfers spanning all ages competing for 10 prestigious Na Papa national titles.

Standing out were Nick Squires (North Wollongong, NSW), Joel Nantes (Currumbin, QLD), Rod Morgan (Stanwell Park, NSW), Todd Goudie (Willunga, SA), who all progressed through to the next round. However, it was Dane Atcheson (Copacabana, NSW) and Joe Haddon (Forster, NSW) who dominated the heat of the event thus far.

The surfing was so strong that Phillppe Didleot (Seaford, SA) who racked up a nine-point ride, was eliminated from the competition. As the competition heads towards the business end of proceedings, be sure to log onto www.australiansurffestival.com for all information regarding the Na Papa Australian Surfmasters Titles.

The website will feature a LIVE Event Broadcast with commentary and heat scores during the event as well as festival news, results, photo and video galleries. The Na Papa Australian Surfmasters Titles are running from Sunday August 24 until Saturday August 30 2008.
