Volcom Stone's Mulletfish goes off on Crozon Peninsula      > Francaise ci-dessous

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 August, 2008 : - - For the second Mullet Fish surf series, we are back on the beautiful peninsula of Crozon in Brittany, about 11 hours drive from our offices in Anglet considering summer traffic.

On Saturday morning, small surf conditions and slight onshore winds are reported in La Palue (contest spot) but with the end of the high tide and sets to just over 1M, the 80 surfers that signed up showed some good quality surf. Juniors were first in the water, followed by opens, groms and girls. With the changing conditions depending on the tide, you could be lucky and get some decent waves or just wait too long between the sets.

The level of the heats was uneven with rookies surfing on the first heats against some seasoned competitors, pushing their limits.In the first heats, few surfers were impressive, such as Aurélien Jacob who was lacerating the waves with a precise and powerful surf, Manu Petibon who won all his heats until the semi final, Tom Croq, who despite his young age has already a huge bag of tricks and Lola who showed us that she could be in the French top 5 in the next years. .

Around 4 pm, all finalists were known, but the tide was too low to offer good waves so a two hours break was necessary to launch the finals. After the kids got entertained on the beach by different kind of games, waves were back and the groms final was on. Advantaged in these conditions, the battle was tight, and Leo Latourte took the win with Tom Croq placing second. Girls' final was following, and logically Lola Boutin won easily the title.

Then the juniors didn’t find that many good waves, but Jean Tonnerre managed to get two and won the heat with a sharp backside surf, the battle was more intense for the other places, and Augustin Graignic finished second. The last heat of the day was on at 8pm, the open final could be summarized as a battle between the Brittany local Aurélien Jacob, and an outsider from Cap Ferret, Vincent Lemanceau.

The victory seemed a long time promised to Vincent, but within the last minutes, Aurélien caught a good right with two huge re-entries, and won the title for the happiness and glory of all the audience.And for a total triumph, he also won the Electric’s Volt Thrower, got 50 euros richer; and getting a second new pair of shades, thanks to a reverse re-entry.

Another big thank you and bravo to all participants, Brittany people, whose legendary hospitality is true, Charlotte and David from Absolut Surf, without whom this event would have never happened, Ronan the photographer who braved the wind all the day, Dom, Norman, Fresh, Picolo and Vincent for helping judging, Valerie for her good mood, Emilien for his first LTKRF event, the Council of Crozon,DVS ,Electric , Nixon, Red Bull for some extra power and Mother Nature for the weather (even if it was freeeezing)

La deuxième étape du Mullet Fish: Plage de la Palue Crozon France

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 August, 2008 : - -  Pour la deuxième étape du Mullet Fish, nous voilà de retour sur la magnifique presqu’ile de Crozon en Bretagne, à près de 11h de route de nos bureaux d’Anglet. (en comptant les bouchons).

Ce samedi matin, de petites conditions nous sont offertes sur la Plage de la Palue avec un léger vent on shore, mais avec la fin de la marée montante et des séries à un peu plus d’1M, les 80 surfers inscrits ont largement de quoi s’exprimer. Les premiers à l‘eau sont les juniors suivis des opens, des groms et girls.

Avec des conditions changeantes en fonction de la marée, le niveau des séries est inégal, où de jeunes espoirs côtoient des surfers confirmés, mais également des débutants, ce qui fait tout le charme de cet événement.

De ces premiers tours, quelques surfers sortent largement du lot, tels qu’Aurélien Jacob qui nous propose un surf puissant et précis, Manu Petibon qui remporte haut la main toutes ses séries, Tom Croq, qui malgré son jeune âge a déjà tout le répertoire des manœuvres actuelles, et Lola qui nous prouve, si besoin en est, qu’il faudra compter sur elle dans les prochaines années.

Aux alentours de 16H, tous les finalistes sont connus, et au vu des conditions (nous apprenons à nos dépends que la houle disparait en même temps que la marée descend) nous décidons de faire un break de plus de 2h où se succéderont différents jeux pour occuper les kids.

19h, les vagues sont de retour, et la première finale est lancée, les groms, avantagés dans ces conditions vont se lâcher dans une finale serrée, finalement remportée par Léo Latourte devant Tom Croq. Suit la finale des filles, où logiquement Lola Boutin remporte haut la main sa série. Les juniors vont eux nous offrir une finale plus indécise, même si sur deux vagues Jean Tonnerre plia la série avec un surf backside efficace, la bataille fut plus intense pour les places d’honneur, et Augustin Graignic se place finalement en seconde position.

La dernière série est lancée à 20h pour la grande finale, les opens, qui se résuma en un duel entre le local de l’étape Aurélien Jacob, et le surfer, originaire du Cap Ferret, Vincent Lemanceau. La victoire sembla longtemps promise à ce dernier, au nez et à la barbe des locaux, mais dans les ultimes instants, Aurélien est parti sur une droite qu’il déchira totalement, avec deux re-rentrys à midi qui scella le résultat pour le bonheur de tout un peuple !

Et pour que son triomphe soit total, il remporte également le « Volt Thrower » d’Electric et les 50 euros qui vont avec, grâce à un re-entry reverse bien projetéEncore une grand bravo et merci à tous les participants, aux bretons qui nous ont accueilli à bras ouvert, à Charlotte et David d’Absolut Surf, sans qui cette épreuve n’aurait jamais eu lieu, à Ronan qui a bravé le vent toute la journée, à Dom, Norman, Fresh, Picolo et Vincent pour avoir jugé tout au long de la journée, à Valérie pour sa bonne humeur, à Emilien pour son baptême chez Volcom, à la Mairie de Crozon, Electric, Nixon, Redbull et à dame nature pour le temps.
