Billabong Pro Junior at Port Stephens set to restart the Australasian Pro Junior Series

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 August, 2008 : - - Next weeks Billabong Pro Junior heads to  Port Stephens, a brand new venue on the ASP Australasian Pro Junior Circuit but with quality wave locations like Samuri’s, One Mile Point  and Birubi  as likely venues the event looks set to deliver superb surfing conditions.

Port Stephens lies on the beautiful mid north coast of NSW  making for an ideal restart to the Billabong Pro Junior season following  it’s hiatus over Australia’s winter months.

A super talented field headed by current tear away ratings leader Stuart Kennedy (Lennox Head) in the Pro Junior Men’s along with World under 18 champion Laura Enever (Nth Narrabeen) in the Pro Junior Women’s will guarantee a super clash of Australasia’s very best emerging male and female professional  surfers.

Most of the top seeded surfers lining up have been busy traveling the world during the winter months, either competing in the recently completed successful Billabong Pro Junior Indonesian series or traveling into the USA and Europe competing at major Pro Junior and ASP World Qualifying Series events.

Gold Coast surfer Nic Vasicek comes into this event full of confidence having just won the Billabong Pro Junior Series in Indonesia. The powerful and stylish goofy foot surfer is enthusiastic about the upcoming Port Stephens event. “It’s always good to head to new locations for surf events, it’s refreshing and from what I hear the area has really good beachbreaks” Vasicek said today.

“I’ve been surfing a fair bit in Indonesia for the past 6 weeks. Winning the Billabong Series in Indonesia was pretty special and probably the best win I’ve had at Pro Junior level so hopefully it  has me well prepared for this event.”

With just three events remaining on the ASP Australasian Pro Junior  Series  for 2008 and  numerous surfers vying for qualification into the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships which will run in Sydney next January, the stakes are certain to be high at this event.

The Billabong Pro Junior Series welcomes Virgin Blue as Billabong's official airline partner and also acknowledges tremendous support from Panasonic, VZ, Kustom, Port Stephens Council and Surfing NSW.

The event begins Thursday September 4th.
