Na Papa Australian Surfmasters Titles heating up at Port Macquarie
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 August, 2008 : - - Port Macquarie, NSW -- With another outstanding day of competition completed at the Na Papa Australian Surfmasters titles, things are beginning to get interesting. With the finals on the horizon, competitors are looking at the do-or-die semi-finals with anticipation and excitement.
Tara Christie (Kawana Waters, QLD) showcased her surfing ability, taking control of the Open Women’s division this morning. “It’s really similar to home out there this morning, so I’m feeling quite confident,” Christie admitted. “I’ve got my family and friends down here for the week so hopefully they will bring me some good luck.”
Having been a recent standout throughout the Queensland state rounds, Christie is enjoying surfing against the best in the country. “All these girls surf so amazing, I haven’t surfed against too many of them, but still they surf really well.” Defending Na Papa Australian Over 35 Women’s champion, Sandra English, continued her dominance within the division, easily qualifying for the second round in style.
Accruing a total heat score of 14.00 (out of a possible 20), English is looking the form competitor in the Over 35 Women’s division. Featuring an eclectic combination of competitors, the Na Papa Australian Surfmasters Titles sees surfers spanning all ages competing for 10 prestigious Na Papa national titles. Not to be outshone by their younger counterparts were the Over 40 Men, who turned back the clock putting on a show for all present at Town Beach. In what was one of the heats of the entire Country Energy Australian Surf Festival, the surfing that went down was of the highest order. Mark Cameron and David Sparenburg stood tow-to-tow and delivered outstanding surfing. However, it was Cameron who came out on top, scoring a perfect ten point ride, backed up with a eight (out of a possible 10).
