Rip Curl's Scar Reef Pro Opens With a Gong

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 August, 2008 : - - Taliwang-West Sumbawa - - The Rip Curl crew arrived at Scar Reef yesterday afternoon to join hundreds of locals from the city of Taliwang and the surrounding area who came to attend the opening ceremony on the pristine white sand beach.

All is now set up for Rip Curl¹s newest Search mission. Games of men¹s and women¹s beach volley ball as well as a presentation of local music and dancing preceded the arrival of the Governer of Taliwang, who banged the official Taliwang gong after a short speech where he said "I welcome all the surfers that came here for this event, and I hope they have great time surfing here. 

We are happy that you all came here, and we want to make this an annual event, even bigger and better next year! Thanks and have a great time."
 
Live bands, more beach volley ball, and some food and drinks rounded out the afternoon¹s festivities, and as the sun went down over the blazing Indian Ocean all that is left is for this world class lefthander to rear up and show the surfers the big throaty barrels that its famous for.

A new swell is predicted to arrive on Sunday the 31st , so all the crew and surfers are standing by for Rip Curl Contest Director  Clemens Berger to call them into action.  Stay tuned as the Search continuesŠ..
