Roxy Jam Cardiff to feature Linda Benson Women's World Longboard Pro

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 August, 2008 : - - Huntington Beach, Ca - - For the third year in a row, Roxy, in conjunction with the Women's World Longboard Championships (WWLC), will return to North County San Diego for the Roxy Jam Cardiff presented by SchickR Quattro for WomenR.

The highly anticipated Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) sanctioned six-star event will take place at Cardiff Reef, September 19-21, 2008.  The event will feature the Linda Benson Women's World Longboard Pro and an amateur longboard competition open to all ages, as well as Surftech's Women's SUP Challenge and a beach festival with art, food and activities for the whole family.

"Without Roxy's support, the sport of women's longboarding and the Women's World Longboard Tour (WWLT) would not exist at the level it is at today," said Linda Benson, President of the WWLC.  "The momentum that we have seen over the past three years, has put the spotlight on women's  ongboarding, and I know with their continued support, the sport and tour will continue to flourish and inspire more women to get in the water and have fun."

Leading the charge to promote and foster the sport of women's longboarding, Roxy continues its support of the WWLT, sponsoring three ASP all-women qualifying longboard events throughout the 2008 year, including Australia, Hawaii and California, along with the Women's World Championship in Biarritz, France, where Joy Monahan was crowned the ASP Women's World Longboard Champion this past July.

With more than 80 women competing last year in the second annual Roxy Jam Cardiff, the event has become a pivotal stop on the tour that offers competitors a chance to qualify for the Women's World Longboarding Championships, while also enjoying the weekend-long beach festival.

The winner of the event will be crowned the U.S. Regional Longboarding Champion and earn a coveted spot in the prestigious Roxy Jam Biarritz Women's World Longboard Championships in July 2009.

"We're thrilled to return to Cardiff again to celebrate the advancement of female longboarding," said Randy Hild, EVP of Global Marketing, Roxy.  "The overwhelming community support for last year's event is a sign of how truly special this venue and tour are.  We are proud to be a part of the longboarding tour and this fun-filled, family weekend."

In addition to the $15,000 prize purse up for grabs, presenting sponsor SchickR Quattro for WomenR will award a $3,000 SchickR Quattro for WomenR Style Award to the pro surfer that demonstrates the best style over the course of the contest. SchickR Quattro for WomenR is a high performance razor for women that shaves so smooth you can skip a day or two, giving you more time to hang at the beach.

Hansen's Surf Shop will offer a second $3,000 prize purse for the Wave of the Day.  There will be five open amateur division contests (Teenie Wahine, Menehune, Junior Women, Senior Women and Masters) and the Surftech's Women's SUP Challenge, a paddleboard race.  The first place winner in each division wins a Surftech Longboard.

Surfer or not, everyone in attendance at the Roxy Jam Cardiff is sure to have a good time.  The event will include an enjoyable, family-oriented beach fair, featuring Roxy and other sponsor tents, food vendors, an art exhibit and auction, music, and a board shapers raffle charity event featuring a chance to win a personal board of choice from a legendary surfboard shaper.

Proceeds from the board shapers raffle will go to the San Ellijo Lagoon Conservancy to help raise community awareness about urban run-off and to supplement the Conservancy's water quality testing program. Last year Roxy raised over $15,000 for the San Ellijo Lagoon Conservancy to help protect the lagoon that runs into Cardiff Reef.

As a kick-off for the upcoming event, Roxy along with the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy, will host a beach clean-up on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Cardiff Reef, the day after Labor Day. The clean-up will begin at 8:00am. The San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy will have the boards from the board shapers raffle charity event on display along with raffle tickets for sale.  Tickets are also available now at www.sanelijo.org

The Roxy Jam Cardiff is sponsored by SchickR Quattro for WomenR, Paul Mitchell, Hansen Surfboards, Surftech, Wahoo's, Smart Girls Who Surf, Emergen-C Pink and Tahiti Tourisme.  For more information and to register for the Roxy Jam Cardiff featuring the Linda Benson Women's World Longboard Pro and amateur competition visit online.
