    Finals day set to blow-up at Na Papa Australian Surfmasters

    Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 August, 2008 : - - Port Macquarie, NSW - - 10 Na Papa Australian champions will be crowned tomorrow as the Country Energy Australian Surf Festival closes to an end. In small conditions, semi-finals got underway as surfers battled feverously for a birth in the finals

    Wayne Morrison (Port Macquarie, NSW) dominated his Over 35 Men’s semi-final today, as conditions deteriorated at Town Beach. “Conditions were really tough out there today, but I got some good waves so I can’t complain,” Morrison said. A Port Macquarie local, Morrison was on-fire today, relishing being able to surf in front of friends and family.

    “It’s so awesome surfing at home,” he added. “I’ve had so much support from the local community - it’s been great.” Currently under the tutelage of current ASP World Tour surfer, and fellow local, Mick Campbell, Morrison is through to his first Na Papa Australian Surfmasters final.

    “This is my best result ever at a Na Papa Australian titles,” Morrison admitted. “To have made the final at home, I’m so stoked.”

    Joining Morrison in the Over 35 Men’s division will be Scott Myers (Lake Mumorah, NSW), Jay Sharpe (Long Jetty, NSW) and Brett Bannister (North Narrabeen, NSW) – who scored the highest combined heat score of day five, with a 18.35 (out of a possible 20).
     
    Featuring an eclectic combination of competitors, the Na Papa Australian Surfmasters Titles sees surfers spanning all ages competing for 10 prestigious Na Papa national titles all set to be decided tomorrow. Leah Wright (Western Australia) continued her impressive run in Open Women’s division, qualifying for the final with Lara Reading (Wallabi Point, NSW), Melissa Sherringham (Wamberal, NSW) and Jenny Boggis (Lennox Head, NSW).
     
    In the Open Men, defending Na Papa Australian champion Matt Bemrose (Curl Curl, NSW) qualified for the final for the second straight year, where he’ll meet Trevor Tripcony (Gold Coast, QLD), Stephen Walsh (Lennox Head, NSW) and Dane Atcheson (Copacabana, NSW).
     
    Former ASP World Tour surfer Toby Martin (Dee Why, NSW) was in red-hot form en-route to qualifying for the Over 28 Men’s final with Wayne Hudson (Port Macquarie, NSW), Gurt Du Preez (Sunshine Coast, QLD) and Joel Spillane (Long Reef, NSW).
