Gul Open at Porthmeor readies for August 30 kick off date

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 August, 2008 : - - The weather is looking good, the swell is small but forecast to increase and The Gul Open is ON! The fourth event on the UK Pro Surf Tour will kick off as planned this weekend, with the best British surfers battling it out at Porthmeor Beach St Ives, Cornwall.

Currently leading the tour Alan Stokes (Newquay) will aim to consolidate his lead. However Matt Capel (S Devon) and Mark Harris (Newquay) are not far behind, whoever places higher after this event should take the lead. Last years tour champion Sam Lamiroy (Newcastle) is also in a strong position in the ratings and with his previous experience at this location, winning the last UKPST event to be held at Porthmeor, he will be difficult to beat.

The event will begin on the morning of 30th August and the winner should be crowned late afternoon on 31st.  Battles will be fierce as we approach midway point on the UK Pro Surf Tour.

Relentless energy drink will be not only providing refreshments for all the top athletes competing but also a prize of £250 for one of the biggest manoeuvres of the contest. Christian Surfers will also be onsite providing help running the event and raising awareness of Surf Relief UK and their mission to help disadvantaged and disabled children enjoy surfing.

As usual, this year’s contest will be celebrated on Saturday night with a party from 7.00pm at The Hub in St Ives.
