Ultimate live auction preview for Liquid Nation Ball 5: tickets still available
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 August, 2008 : - - Aliso Viejo, Ca -- The SIMA Humanitarian Fund is proud to announce that this year’s annual Liquid Nation Ball will exhibit the event’s largest amount of unique, surf items for attendees to bid on in the live auction with more than 20 items. The fifth annual Liquid Nation Ball will take place on Friday, September 5, in La Jolla, Calif.
All proceeds from Liquid Nation Ball 5 will go directly to 14 surf-related humanitarian organizations chosen by the SIMA Humanitarian Fund Board of Directors.
“The live auction this year is absolutely insane with trips to exotic locations, priceless art, impossible to find signed boards, a special surfboard from Mexico, seen for the first time in the United States and much more,” said Fernando Aguerre, Liquid Nation Ball co-founder and host. “With the most unique live auction items ever offered at Liquid Nation Ball and the new silent auction sponsored by Riviera, I am so pleased this year’s attendees will have multiple, fun opportunities to support our 14 humanitarian organizations.”
Along with the live auction, attendees will have the opportunity to support the SIMA Humanitarian Fund beneficiaries during the first-ever Liquid Nation Ball silent auction. The silent auction, sponsored by the exclusive Riviera magazine, will showcase luxury items geared more towards women and families. Unique resort, spa, dinning, and high-end retail packages will be a bidders delight – mixing support of the Liquid Nation Ball beneficiaries with pleasure. Liquid Nation Ball 5 will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the ocean-front home of Fernando and Vicky Aguerre. The event includes dancing, live music, great food, and open bar. Last year’s event raised more than $250,000 and the SIMA Humanitarian Fund Board of Directors aims to beat that record amount in 2008. For more information and tickets visit www.liquid-nation.com.

Epic Original Oil Painting by Peruvian Surfer Flavio Caporali After their fishing journeys, the ancient Peruvians would use their “caballito de totora” (a small boat) to get back to the beach surfing the waves, in a way very similar to stand up surfing. This beautiful original 39” x 32” oil painting by Peruvian artist and big wave surfer Flavio Caporali, entitled “A Long Time Ago in the Coast of Peru,” is a representation of a part of Peru’s history as well as surfing. With a rare United States appearance, you will have the opportunity to meet the artist at Liquid Nation Ball.
LNB5 Signed Board by Skip Frye For the last four years, it has been a tradition to have a legendary shaper custom shape a board for Liquid Nation Ball. As all the celebrities, pro surfers and industry legends arrive at the event, they sign the board to be auctioned off later in the evening. This year, Liquid Nation Ball is proud to feature a custom shaped board from legendary shaper Skip Frye, who this year is celebrating his 50th anniversary of surfboard shaping. Skip will also be in attendance at Liquid Nation Ball to custom sign the board for the buyer.
Pinch's Nightmare by Greg and Jed NollPinch's Nightmare by Greg and Jed Noll Titlted Pinch's Nightmare for Jed’s struggle to represent his father's vision in a sculpture, this visionary creation marks the beginning of a new phase in the Noll progression and legacy. The flow lines of this piece are a blend of aerodynamic and hydrodynamic, but - divorced from the onus of function - the overall impression is both artistic and erotic. Made from solid balsa wood and 11’6” in length, this is another rare masterpiece from the legendary Noll family commissioned exclusively for Liquid Nation Ball. The buyer will have the opportunity to meet Pinch and Greg as well as family leader Laura Noll, as they will be attending Liquid Nation Ball 5.

One-Of-A-Kind Mexican Art Surfboard from Squalo This item is truly a unique and amazing piece of art that took 21 days for the artist to complete, working 8 hours per day. Using a special Mexican craft called chaquira, artist Feliciano Lopez has transformed a surfboard into a piece of art that features 165,500 individual colored beads of chaquira that were applied by hand, one-by-one. This craft was brought to Mexico by the Spaniards and originally involved using broken glass for the beads. Special thanks to our friends at Squalo for this auction item and the work they are doing in providing aid and basic necessities to these communities.
Liquid Nation Ball was originally created by Santiago and Fernando Aguerre to support the humanitarian efforts of SurfAid. In 2006 the brothers donated the Ball to the SIMA Humanitarian Fund, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation. The event now serves as the official fundraising event for the SIMA Humanitarian Fund.
All proceeds from Liquid Nation Ball 5 will benefit 14 surf-related social and humanitarian non-profit organizations selected by the SIMA Humanitarian Fund Board of Directors for their efforts focusing on improving the quality of life, health and/or welfare of people. The 2008 Liquid Nation Ball beneficiaries include Keep a Breast, Boarding for Breast Cancer, Surfer’s Healing, Jimmy Miller Foundation, AccesSurf Hawaii, Outdoor Outreach, Get a Board Foundation, Ka Keiki O Hawaii Foundation, Stoked Mentoring, L.A. Surf Bus, Life Rolls On, Project Wipeout, SurfAid International and Sumba Foundation.
