FCS introduces the the FCS Rusty Quad

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 5 September, 2008 : - - The FCS Rusty Quad features Performance Core (PC) technology and combines two unique fi n templates, the FCS R-2 and the FCS Q-R, producing one of the most high performance quad sets available. The Rusty Quad combines the performance characteristics of two unique fi ns: FCS R-2 (front side fi ns) and FCS Q-R (quad rear fins).

The FCS R-2 is the result of a design collaboration between FCS, world-renowned shaper Rusty Presendorfer and fi n designer Curtis Hasselgrave. The fi n was refi ned, tested and approved by Rusty’s stable of elite world-class team riders and features a sooth-curved outline, moderate sweep angle and medium-to-large surface area offering remarkable hold and drive with a ‘solid’ feel through turns.

The FCS Q-R was specifi cally designed by Rusty to perform in conjunction with the FCS R-2, effectively completing the Rusty Quad set. The template is a modifi ed version of the FCS R-2 which has been adjusted to suit the requirements of a quad rear fi n. A slightly thicker foil and rounded leading edge adds forgiveness to the overall performance of the fin and allows versatility in its positioning on the board.

Flex
The FCS R-2 and FCS Q-R both feature a unique fl ex pattern developed by Rusty. A smaller sized inner core insert is used in the construction ensuring more fibreglass in the tip of the fi n. This translates into a progressive, slightly stiffer fl ex that offers an incredible amount of drive with a nice release off the top.

FCS ‘Camber Control’ is featured on all fi ns in the FCS Rusty Quad set. A high cambered ‘inside foil’ at the base of the fi n gradually transitions to a very low cambered ‘inside foil’ through the tip. This ultimately provides effi cient water fl ow over the fi n during multiple angles of attack adding
drive, ‘squirt’ and incredibly smooth rail-to-rail transitioning.

Performance
The FCS Rusty Quad offers exceptional hold and drive, consistent response through turns and versatility across a variety of conditions and board sizes. The size of the fi ns and the total combined area of this quad set makes it ideally suited to surfers of average to heavy weight and those who like to really ‘load-up’ on their fi ns. Alternatively the Rusty Quad can be used to stiffen up smaller boards and offers lighter surfers more control.

Materials and Construction
• Resin Transfer Moulded (RTM) fi n consisting of a sandwich of lightweight lantor (honeycomb foam like compound) between layers of 6oz fi breglass and polyester resin producing a lightweight fi n with calculated fl ex.
• The moulding process guarantees precision and accuracy with the added performance advantage of reduced weight.
• Each fi n produced is then individually hand fi nished and treated producing a smooth matt fi nish.
• A green resin tint makes for an impressive aesthetic.
• Each fi n in this quad set features Rusty’s unique signature R printed on the side.
